Hey guys,

My X700Pro just got pushed to it's limit and I am still not finding enough FPS for my games, so i have desided to get my self a new card.

What should i get, Sapphire's X800GTO or Sapphire's X1600XT, both 256mb GDDR3, and PCI-E.

I am looking for something under $200 canadian(170 or something american), can some of you point me to a card that is good bang for the buck?

Correct me if i'm wrong, the X800 GTO has the R480 chip right?

Or should i save up more money to get the 7600?

Thx!

I don't think so. The GTO's come with either an R430 or an R420. Maybe R480, but not too sure because the GTO2 are the ones with R480. Is the GTO a Sapphire or Connect3D?

I have the X800GTO and its a R480 chip. It OCs very well but cant unloc last 4 pipes. try and get the X850 or X800 GTO2 (GTO2 unlocks 16 pipes)

Otherwise just wait and get a 7900Gt its only $299 and RULES! Forget the 7600.

i would either get the gto2 or a 1600xt 512. the x1600 doesnt have as much raw horsepower but it is the equivlent of a 9600 or x600 in its time. my friend has a pro version and its definatly not in the x850 range but its really nice. but you can get a
x850 $163 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102483
or a x1600xt 179 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161160

Just get the X850XT at newegg.com but if you want to flash your card to anX850XT PE then get the GTO2 at newegg.com. I've heard though that the newer GTO2 don't flash/overclock as good and usually don't reach X850XT/PE speeds anymore.

dude azn...the x850xt is a pe just without the pe in the name. those cards are just like the x1900's they are all the same.

red gto2 (99% flashable) $156 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102645
x850xt (just oc to 540/1180) $163 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102483
i would get the x850xt as its a garenteed flash with a much better cooler as these cards run HOT

x1600 equivalent to a x600 or 9600  ? fyi an x1600 can easily keep up with a x800 nm x600 and in some cases some x850s i know from experience lol though im biased my x1600 (pcx 256mb ddr2) is only a month old but i upgraded from a 9800pro and have noticed significant although not humoungous (<sp?) difference it runs cod2 on max at 1024x768 easily, show me a 9600 or x600 that can do that lmao

also the x1600 does have the advantage of sm3.0 of which the x8** series doesnt which doesnt matter too much now but maybe will at the end of the year as shaders in games are becomeing ever more increasing and sm3 will start to appear in games and in that instance the x1600 WILL outperform the x8** range (3dmark06). but if going for a x1600 range i think now i should have spent £20 more for the XT just for the faster core and memory speeds as the x1600 pro mem can only be clocked to around 430 from 405, the core can easily reach 580-600+ from 500 though

"in its time"
umm wheres your reading glasses you missed these three ever so important words in his statement.
it means that the x1600 is a worthy successor to the 9600 and x600
that said the x1600xt won't be as powerful as the x1700 which is due to release soon and would be a good thing to wait and see what it can do.

sorry when was an x600 ever a viable upgrade option ? thats always been a budget card and you can no way compare "in its time" to a x1600 hope you have your reading glasses on to read this.

I've got the X800GTO2, and here are the things that I miss above all:
- No PS/VS 3.0
- No Adaptive Anti-Aliasing
- No updated drivers about memory tweaking (aka DOOM 3 speedups)

Here are the things I do enjoy:
- 16 pipelines
- VIVO
- Dual DVI/VGA
- TV out
- overclocking and fast memory, lots of bandwidth

I think it depends on the game and the speed of your processor.

it beats the older x6xx series cards by so much due to core improvments and the triple shaders per pipe instead of one per pipe.

the x600 was a very good value or budget card for gamers. that great price/performance ratio with the x6xx series cards is why the 9600's x600's and now the x1600's are flyin off the shelves. each new generation of the card has always come real close to tripling the last gen as far as perfromance goes.

it may not be the best performing card out there but for a 1/4 of the price and 1/2 the performance im not going to complain. i can play current gen games (allbeit not great) for a 2 generation card that sells for about $60.
