Apparently, all Intel CPUs could be vulnerable to a hacker attack because of their "emergency mode", which occurs when the CPU starts to overheat, or senses any other problem.

When the processor begins to overheat or encounters other conditions that could threaten the motherboard, the computer interrupts its normal operation, momentarily freezes and stores its activity, said Loïc Duflot, a computer security specialist for the French government’s Secretary General for National Defense information technology laboratory.

Cyber attackers can take over a computer by appropriating that safeguard to make the machine interrupt operations and enter System Management Mode, Duflot said. Attackers then enter the System Management RAM and replace the default emergency-response software with custom software that, when run, will give them full administrative privileges.

well if we go back to the 80s movies we can.

just imagine, super intense moment, hacker vs hacker ones on an AMD the other an intel...the guy with the intel yells in anger as his intel based rig begins to smoke, spark and bounce about his desktop in an excessive and string fed fasion.

"HOW DID HE KNOW MY WEAKNESS!?!?! HOW DID HE KNOW I HAD INTEL INSIDE??????!!!!!"

doesn't affect us anyway, since most people here using intel have thermal throttling, and all that other bs turned off, and keep our cpu's nice and cool :D

LOL i just remember some crazy 80s movie where a guy puts in a 5.25" floppy (which apparantly had a state of the art virus) into a HUGE diskette drive, and it began to smoke and vibrate and blew up.

everyone in the room was surprised at this occurence. as was I.

then again i do remember those old 5.25 inch floppy drives vibrating and making loud scronching noises. but you kids wouldnt know anything about those.

Every computer that runs on x86 chip architecture may be vulnerable to this attack
It's actually a vulnerability of the x86 platform. It's documented and AMD is using exactly the same platform. So the odds are that AMD is vulnerable too. Then again it doesn't work with Windows, so good luck to you Linux users.
