Windows Vista will restrict users who are running pirated copies of the operating system by locking users into the classic interface, and disabling the new 3d Aero interface.
The new 3d interface "Aero" will also not be available in Windows Vista Basic, the lowest-end version of the operating system.

Unfortunately for gamers we'll have no choice to get DX10. And that is a BIG deal.

:toast: You're right buddy!!!! Im a gamer and for the likes of me who play games where image quality is a must , you'd need DX10 and that means you need Vista and im gonna buy it. Im prepare to get ATI's R600 when it comes out. This is a realization of such immersive game play that both R600 and Vista will bring to gamers!!!!:rockout:

no way are microsoft suddenly overnight gonna leave 90 percent of the worlds gamers out in the cold.. not unless they wanna sell a lot more xboxes and finish off the PC gaming market completely..

Hey buddy, theres alot of bad stuff, pirating, virus', illegal erotica, spyware.... but please do not relate the people who pirate/distribute to the retards and assholes who develop virus for no reason other then to make others waste time and money.

M$ always says they wont release things for previous OS's then they do anyways. DirectX9 for Windows 2000, windows defender for XP. You get the idea..
DX10 will probably premiere on Vista, and get released on XP later on.

I think it's kind of stupid -- unless there are fundamental, incompatible differences in the code -- to not release Dx10 for XP. Just another ploy, of course. As well, the main issue of this thread was that people won't be able to run the super-awesome, totally wicked-sweet effects that come with the highest-end version of Vista. Sure. As being a person that doesn't generally pay for software, I expect this to be cracked within a month. So, granted issues unforseen don't present themselves, I'll be running Vista within a month of its release.
I'm looking forward to the hardware-rating scheme they have setup for Vista. I wonder if that will possibly debut before the actual OS itself, or perhaps just be implemented as part of it? I'm looking forward to it, not to brag about whatever theoretical nonsense score they provide, but because that will likely push video cards and their importance into the limelight, so to speak.

I still use classic interface, and turn off all the effects in XP :) . I like it better that way. I even stopped using a background, and just use the solid color that goes under the background. Looks boreing, but it is nice and streamlined.

DirectX 9.L is likely to be the last release for XP. It offers support for DirectX10 games and some DX10 shaders, but it wont be the same as DirectX10... Unlike DX10 though it will support DX9 games natively - lovely :)
