View Full Version : Sapphire X800 Gto2 not overcklocking as well
Hi Guys:
A bought a month ago a brand new Sapphire X800 GTO2 vivo dual dvi. It comes with 16 pipes bye dafault. i flashed to x850 xtpe and tried to up the frecuencies.
My card dont reach speeds more than 480 for the core and 550 for the memos.
More than 480 the systems freezes, the screens becomes black for a few seconds and back the image with the ati vpu recovery window saying that the system stop responding and everything go back to deafults.
I know you guys you have a lot of information and maybe you can help me.
The thing is that with my gto2 I cant get more than 480 mhz for the core.
My system specs are the following in case you need to known.
Athlon xp64 3000+
daymex 450w psu
msi rs482m4-ild mother
ocz high performance ddr400 2 x 1gb dual channel memory
ibm sata 2 80gb hd
Sapphire radeon x800 gto2 v. card
Note: At 480 mhz the core temperature doesnt exceed the 48 degrees on load.
Thanks a Lot.

Does your card have a blue PCB?
No Cyb, mi card is the red one. same as the card in the pic attached.
I was thinking maybe is a botleneck isue with the mother.
All coments and help are welcome.:)
Use atitool to se what GPU do you have, and does your card have external power connector??
MMX;
Mi Card has the power connector and before i flashed it ati tools showed me that i have a r430 core, now after the flash shows a r480.
In this link: http://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/a179023.html you can see exactly the model that i have.
Thanks for your help and new comments are welcome

Hmm, you must have the version with the 'failed speedbin' r480 core. This is a core that's failed the speedtests after manufacturing, and can't handle the x850xt(pe) speeds, so they're guaranteed to run at 400mhz, and put into gto's. Up until recently, sapphire didn't use these cores, but since there was such a high demand for the X800gto2, these cores were used.
Unfortunatly, it's a bit hit and miss with the new x800gto(2)'s that are available, but you might be able to get a replacement if you get in touch with sapphire. :)
Infra;
Thanks for your information, i didnt know about a crap r480, i though that it was a problem with the mother, a botleneck or something like that. it a little weird hearing that a brand like shappire is throwing into the market bad core procesor. Anyways i will try to contact this guys of shappire because its the first time that i saw a card like this that cant handle more than 480 mhz at 45 degrees on load.
Thanks a lot and more comments are very welcome.

they sell the card to do 400mhz.. the overclock is not guaranteed.. ???
u are perhaps just unlucky.. try the rma route as infrared suggested..

Ok Guys, i wrote an very detailed email to saphhire. now all i can do is waiting for the reply.
Anyways next week ill change this crapy mother (really sux) and the psu and see what happends with this change.
Something inside me is telling me that the problem is with the mother and the psu.
I think the cards needs more power than my psu can handle.

i don't think it's your psu or mobo (although it might be limiting it a little bit)
my mobo is a pos, and so is my psu (it's 300w. please don't everyone tell me to get a new one, i'm on it) they are from emachines. i don't know what exactly is going on, but it sounds like sapphire did what any intelligent, honest business would do: say what the card is supposed to perform at, and sell the best it has first (as a first come first served kind of deal), and then later sell the chips that actually meet the minimum requirements
i shouldn't be getting 80+ more mhz on the gpu than you, esp w/ my setup
hopefully the card might just be bummin, in which case good luck with your rma! fingers crossed

the x800gto2 is past its best.. money wise the last remaining x1800xt 256 meg cards are the ones to get.. grab them while they are still here..
six months ago the gto2 was the bargain of the century.. now it isnt..

So, the only thing that i can do is wait and pray for a rma.
I think ir really deshonest from sapphire throwing into the market a card like this.
They really sux if theyre throwing cards like this into the market with that problem.
Thanks all you guys for the comments and cross your fingers for me!!!!.

they wernt meant to be flashed to x850xtpe's...it was meant to be a midrange card hence the slower ram and clocks. technically what you are doing voids the warrenty and isnt covered by sapphire so if nothing it wrong with the card at 400/490(i think thats default) then you will get your card right back.

They're RAM is 1.6 ns though. The original GTO2 were Limited Edition and they were really great overclockers. Now, they're still R480, but not as great and might not have passed the speed tests like Infrared said. Trog is also right, there's no guarantee on the box that it will go to XT(PE) speeds. If I were Sapphire, I would still keep it as GTO2 but take out the Limited Edition sticker on the box.
