I have no idea what's really going on here... I have a bios i modded myself (which should function fine) I booted into DOS, I backed up the standard bios to a floppy (flashrom -s 0 backup.bin). I attempted to reflash to my bios (flashrom -f -p 0 bios.bin), but flashrom gives an error saying nothing has been written (error 04101?). atiflash gives the exact same problem. What am I doing wrong? My card is a Sapphire x800GTO agp with an r430 and no pipes hardware locked. I can't figure out whats going on! Any help is appreciated

sorry bout that error is 0FL01 "flash not detected" in atiflash. Using the info command (atiflash -i 0) I get an incomplete table of values. The values diplayed are as follows:
Adapter - 0
bn - 01
dn - 50
dID - 4D52
asic - T510
Flash - (blank)
romsize - (blank)
test - (blank)
bios p/n - (blank)
WTF does this mean and how can there be no flash memory present?

did you correct the checksum with RaBiT after you modded it ? I assume that you did
and the 'new' bios has a file mane shorter than 8 letters
try using ram bios [below} to test before flashing
can you post your before & after mod bios

ooo what do you mean correct the check sum? i loaded it up in rabit and it all looked fine but i didnt see any kind of options to check for checksum errors or anything. how do you use that rambios program?
I actually think my card has some kind of flash protection option on or something, because i can recognize and save the old bios using flashrom, but it wont access the eeprom to write.

i dont have any program to zip the old bios with ( i just use extractnow for all extractions) and i dont really want it to have to come to that... i just loaded the bios into a hex editor and changed the value at 00 x 07a from 61 to 60, because thats what i read to do in another thread somewhere. Is that the correct mod to unlock the pixel pipe quad?

Yes, but there is one more step you hawe to do, and that is load your bios in rabit. You can download from here http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/9 .Then rabit will report a problem, just hit yes , then save the bios.....and then flush it.

Hey thanks for responding but I've already tried opening the bios in rabit 1.7 and in rabit 2.0. both said "bios may be corrupted..." and i clicked yes. After all that is when the problem occurs. I've tried flashing using 3 different versions of flashrom and 1 version of atiflash and none of them will allow a reflash on my card, even attempting to force the flash. they all give the error "0FL01 no flash detected" apparently my actual EEPROM chip is locked somehow or something.
I can't upload the bioses because i dont have a program to zip them with, and they have to be zipped to upload here. The problem isn't in the bios files because the card wont even allow me to reflash with the bios that i copied driectly from it with flashrom.
What i was really wondering is if there is something you have to do to enable flashing on saphire x800GTOs?

when i enter the info command in flashrom (flashrom -i 0) i get a table of values that actually says the type of flash memory, the capacity, and it says "locked" under one of the categories...
How can my flash memory be locked and how can i unlock it?

I'v never heard of a saphire x800GTO bois being LOCKED !!! you can send the bios to my e-mail as an attachment no zip required if you left mouse on my name you will see the link
Try with the following command line:
atiflash -newbios -f -p 0 (zero) biosname.bin (not longer than 8 symbols)

Preserve R42x ROM settings
romid=12Flash type = ST M25P05/c
Error: data not erased

YES ok so it's not just me being retarded! somebody else has had the same problem! I have an R430 AGP too and the flash memory itself seems to be locked somehow or have some kind of flash protection on it.

Hey thanks for trying to help frogger but i got the same error with your new bios and modified flashrom... still says "error 0FL01 data not erased".
I don't think the problem really has anything to do with the software and bios I was using. It really seems to be locked on a hardware level.

so the plot thickens even more... using the latest version of atiflash, the command line recommended above, and the bios frogger sent me i believe i got a successful flash and my 3dmark 05 score jumped from 4385 with clocks of 447/564 to a score of 4724 @ 435/455.

the strange part is that ATItool doesn't say anything has changed. even more confusing i tried to save a bios using atiflash after i believe i reflashed successfully, and the new bios file it saved is completely blank..http://forums.techpowerup.com/images/smilies/confused.gif.

try saving the bios with ATI Tool send the result to my e-mail ... if the card runs lets see if the bios is still the oringinal.... can you post pic of your current CONFIG_rom page from atitool... the "-f" command should have 'forced' the new flash....

based on the deivce id 'bus 3 ' this card must have a r430 pci-e core with a 'rialto' bridge to make it agp compatiable please check back of card for this chip[see pic] ..if so i believe Dolf has an automated iso flashing disk for this card if you PM him he will send you it :toast:
