I got my brand new Sapphire X1800XT 256MB card today, all seems great but my clock speeds are not as high as they should be! The core should be 625MHz and the memory should be 750MHz but mines currently running @ 594/693  And when I try to overclock it to what should be the default speeds I get artifacts in ATiTool and then my system crashes
Any advice would be great (check my system specs for details on the rest of my rig)

I believe the x1000 has settings for both 2d and 3d, so when the card is in 2d and doesn't need the power its clocks set lower and only go up with a 3d api. Your overall performance should also indicate if there is a problem with your card. If everything is working right in 3d applications I wouldn't worry, another test is benchmarking and then comparing what others have been getting, if your seeing a big difference maybe calling tech support for your cards manufacturer.

no u dont only if u want to use atitool to clock the card.. left alone it does it all quite well.. but anything run in a window will still select the 2d speeds.. fullscreen 3d and off it goes at full speed..
there is also no point whatsoever in running the card full speed in windows.. the two speed concept makes a lot of sense..

blatant cpu bottleneck.

not enough psu power wont make a card go slower just not work reliably or not work at all..
it is bit low thow but i aint familar with intel systems.. make sure u dont have aa forced in the ccc thing.. it needs to be set at application preference or off.. so does vsinc..
i would have expected 7500-ish.. or a little more
your scores in 2003 and 2005 are similar to what i got with an x850 type card.. the x1800xt should be higher..
