According to the manual for that mobo you will need a Mastercard and dongle in order to run the x1800 or x1900 in crossfire mode.....I dont think this is true for the x1300 and x1600 cards though.

According to the manual it says x1900crossfire will work in crossfire mode with ANY x1k series card, and i found that wrong too. don't beleive everything you read... just wait for the right driver, and get the right mobo.

x1300 and x1600 can run without dongle .. all other cards need the dongle ..
rumor says that an upcoming driver release will enable cf without dongle for x8xx series and x1800 gto .. wait for the next couple of catalyst releases before spending your money and then "but w1zzard said" :)

IMO it should be possible to run CF and SLI on any CF or SLI board. I mean ATI on Nvidia and vice versa. So whats the big deal with it ?? It seems just to be a driver issue and maybe someone could patch drivers so we could use CF on Nforce boards or the other way.
I would appreciate that coz´i got 1 x850pro (not unlockable) and in the next monthsi´d like to get another one cheap, not to be the king of 3Dmark just to keep up with the newer cards coming out.
So is there someone working on it ? (I saw there where patches but those have gone offline.)

of course it is .. it is just not enabled for performance/marketing reasons

yeah im sure its mostly marketing, neither really support a 100% performance increase neither really out does another, even though both claim to be superior graphics solutions.
did u see the patch notes for oblivion?
one of the details was something like
"Users with Crossfire will not recieve an increase in performance untill Ati lists Oblivion as a Crossfire enabled game."
tell me thats not some marketing BS.
What if game developers report their game wont get an increase from SLI, for..."unknown" reasons, and suddenly Ati donated to the developers for "unknown" reasons.

from what I hear, the 6.5's will let you setup 2 X1800GTO's in crossfire mode without mastercard or cable. Thats all I've heard...

If you could do it on x1800 gto wouldnt you also be able to do it on x1800xl/xt?

dude theres no way thats the final. Its not even listed at ATI's website yet, how would someone get ahold of it?
Besides, downloading files from rapidshare is SUCH a chore. Its the biggest lemon site I've ever seen. 19 popups, homepage looks the same as other, trying to sell you crap on EVERY PAGE. I hate rapidshare...

Only the X1800 GTO will let you have CrossFire without the dongle, because it has the on-chip CrossFire bridge, but it needs drivers (6.5). Both cards have to the the chip, but in all other X1800's and X1900's (not sure about GT), only the CrossFire Edition cards have the chip.

thats pretty interesting. I'm finding my GTO card to be a pleasure to own more and more every day. When I first got it I unlocked it to 16 pipes with a saphXL bios, which was cool. Then I figured out that you can open the origional bios with a hex editor and change a single value to unlock the quad pipes, thus keeping the hardware recognized as a GTO card, also very cool.
Then just the other day I opened the card's modded bios with RaBiT2.0a and changed voltages to 1.2125, now I can run 600/600, even COOLER!
Last night I heard my HIS card, since it has 6 power FETs on the PCB, can safely run voltages up to 1.46 with propper cooling. So I've ordered a water cooling kit and am shooting for 700/750, which will be COOL!
:D
"3DMark05 w/ oc & enhanced memory timings:" how do you enhance your memory timings? what card is that for?

Good for you. I was going to get that card but I'm going to wait. When Conroe comes out, and I see the benchmarks, my money's gonna be blown.
Getting Conroe, 4x 250GB HDD's in RAID 0, ASUS MoBo with 975X chipset, the most expensive ATI DirectX10 cards, same case though, Liquid Cooling. man, am I gonna be in debt (JK...but close to it).

I'm gonna wait on the DX10 cards. I think the next upgrade I'll be doing is to the new AM2 socket from AMD.
I have an intel setup rite now and I use 2GB of DDR2 ram. Since the new AM2 boards will use DDR2 it seems like a logical upgrade.

But I've heard that there isn't much of a difference between Skt 939 and AM2 except DDR2. And Conroe looks pretty bright in the future and CrossFire is speeding up.

Yes its an intel chip, and no, its not LGA775, its 478/479 IIRC.
I975P chipset boards, well some can use them.

I think Conroe is LGA775. Its mobile cousin Merom is 478.

yea after reading into it, the 2.66 mhz conroe spanks an OC'd fx60. I also have been reading that conroe is lga 775 so im wondering if it will work with my motherboard. If not, come christmas I'll have a decision to make: amd or intel...
shutup sheep, were only slightly off topic.
