I have a chance to get a x1800gto for $169 or a x850 pe for $199. Has anyone had luck unlocking the X1800's?

I'm sure there must be a way. But as I don't own one I dont have one to mess with.

i forget where i saw this, but i remember some site advertising that the x1800gto IS unlockable. however, after many trials and failures, people decided that the card was NOT unlockable and that the original site advertising that it IS unlockable was just a bunch of BS. anyways, hope that helps. :)

I unlocked an HIS X1800GTO from newegg for 218 dollars. Currently, using a modified version of the GTO bios, I can set the core voltage as high as 1.4 and get up to 700/700 before heat starts causing artifacts.

I've ordered aftermarket cooling. So far this card is the best overclocker I've owned. Talk about best bang for the buck...

Basically, at 1.2125V and 600 core/600 mem, the card runs as safe as it did at 500/500... I posted a 1.45V bios but you can open it up in rabit2.0a(found in the downloads section at techpowerup.com) and under features tab change voltage to 1.2125... I put up a 1.45V so people could select which voltage they needed (long story short, you can't go from 1.075 to 1.45 without reflashing the bios at least 3 times). Being able to select a lower voltage from the highest voltage saves time.

Yea, they unlocked it with a saphire XL bios, but it doesn't give you core voltage control, only mem, which is why they couldn't get the card overclocked above 560.... If you want the most out of a GTO then the core voltage needs to be upped.
