Hey guys, a mate of mine has been offered a ATI FireGL X3-256 from his work place. I was wondering if these cards were good for gaming.

Looking at the tech specs on gpureview.com it looks like to be on par with the X800XT  , but are these cards good for gaming or are there best left for graphics workstations.

They're alright for gaming, but alot of it's features etc. are for workstations.

These cards are great for gaming. They are up to their junior brothers GPU to GPU but are superior in the following areas:

1./ OpenGL optimisations... hence OpenGL based games will probably do a lot better
2./ Higher bit depth and output quality on colors (although not noticable in games)
3./ Dual link DVI meaning you can have super large hi-res TFT link Apple Cinema 30"
4./ Two DVI out, meaning you can drive 2 TFT's via digital at high quality
5./ Stereographic output... you can watch stuff in true 3D with additional hardware.

If you or a friend of yours gets a X3-256, please post the BIOS... the one in the techpowerup database is not a true X3-256, but a "X800Pro to X3" hack version.
