I see there are A LOT of 1 votes to bring down rankings of cases .. any ideas what could be done about this?

any other suggestions for the gallery?

I was thinking about adding some way to link to the case using the name .. the problem is that this could change if you edit the name .. any suggestions here?

Honestly I think the 1's may be from some of the people in the Case gallery who want their own cases to rank higher (as well as sad people who are just lashing out at others).

I enjoy the comments from people much better than any arbitrary number (since you dont know who its from anyways)

I think something fun would be classes, Noob, Cheapest, junkiest, nicest mods, cool lighting, outrageus idea, etc.

Mabye once a quarter a contest where people could vote on the best. That way people who have thousands of dollars invested arent compeating with some one that makes minimum wage and is just starting. I think if everyone has a different class they wont feel left out.

I know its easy to ask for stuff (it seems like a lot of work for the people who have to run the site) But I think this will elevate your site above all the others... Mark

My ideas, not all of them are good :p.
1- People with less then say, 50 posts are not allowed to vote on cases.
2- Make it easier to update images (I tried updating my mod, I couldn't update the pictures, I had to repost.).
3- Increase the amound of bandwidth pictures can use (us people who invested in 5 megapixel camera's are dissapointed when we try to post pictures of our cases lol).

I like #1 zek..

Would it be ok if we can see who posts the #1's? So if you post, the person who owns the computer can see who voted whatever number and maybe the people who vote can also say why they voted that number.

zek: can you explain what the problem was in #2 and how you would fix it?

#3: how about making the big image a clickable image which links to an even bigger version? (opened in new window)

Hey W1zzard,
Can you fix it so that we can see people who posted? So we know who gave us 1's? And also, maybe they can also type out a reason why they gave us whatever they gave us as a rank? would that work out fine, or too much trouble?

i think the idea of knowing who votes what would lead to ultimate flame wars and so on and so forth, yet i love the idea of only voting if you have 50 posts or more (maybe 20 posts... seeing as i just cleared the 50 mark myself...).

i also like the idea of different gallery subcategories. voting on a winner would be cool, and it would absofrickinawesome if there was prize (small, like a cathode, or good but older game (UT2004 & Farcry are like 7bucks online some places) for each category. This of course is budget considering, but maybe some sponsorships.... I dont' know, just thoughts!

Sorry for being so indescriptive :o. I had about 5 pics up, and wanted to update with new ones. I tried to replace all of them, but most of the images remained the same. Eventually it just wouldn't change any of the images, so I deleted and reposted. I have no clue how to fix it, good luck :p. Perhaps a "delete image" button that makes sure the selected image is deleted? And your suggestion about #3 sounds good. What did you think about #1? :).

i dont like the show who voted option because it will create a lot of problems.
voting only for users with a certain minimum of posts would be a good idea but it will just reduce the number of votes ...people can still vote a case down ..
right now unregistered can vote once per ip per day.. probably shut that off

I haven't really payed attention to the case gallery lately but when I went through all of them, I noticed how many people were giving out 1's. There are so many people out there jealous of other people's comps. How sad. I admit that my computer isn't the best one out there but it suits me, and I wouldn't give out 1's to people who have better comps.

God damn Dell! Look what you've done to people who buy your systems!

- i reset all votes to zero (so go vote people)
- only registered (even 0 posts) can vote now
- can vote only once per case
- added option to revoke your vote if you change your mind
- added display to show what you voted in the list when you already voted

Sounds good! Let's see how that works out, and if we still get alot of 1's, I think we should raise the amount of posts required to vote. Until then, so many pretty cases to vote on, so little time :D.

I agree, the minimum should be about 50 posts.

A good idea to fix the 1's problems is every times a case got 1, it got automatically a 10, problem fixed, unless they start to put 2 to everyone... :banghead:

HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHA Thanks for letting me know how many "active users" there are :). I knew that "23000 registered users" was a misleading figure. But wow, I never knew it was that few. Oh well...I'd never be able to keep up with a really big forum :p. Proud to be one of the 200 active users :D.

I still like the comments better than the scores. If it was a contest the scores would matter.
I like it better when someone says what they like or would do better. That is helpful..

establishing a big forum takes a lot of time .. i think we're doing reasonably well. you are always free to go elsewhere of course if this place isnt busy enough for you. however i would appreciate it if you help getting this community to grow

btw it's not hard to come to that number given 20k users and 100k posts

I almost dont want us to get much bigger. I really like the small community, you can build a lot of close friends. On a bigger forum thats almost impossible.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it look like I didn't like this forum :o. I love the small community...I was thinking about whether or not I should have mentioned "I'm proud to be one of the 200 active users", and now I know I should have :p. And yeah you're absolutely right, Poge, you just can't build friends easily on a huge forum. We have a pretty tight community...let's keep it that way :).

Great prediction poge, well its actually true. I cant stand huge forums, though a plus is you get alot of help and opinions, but I dont think I will leave this forum, Ive met about 15 people here, I talk to about 8 daily, and they all help me, I help them, we all play games, we do benching competitions its great.... I could care less about 1 ranks really.... I know if my system can play the latest games its a system I will need.... It also does will on 3dmarks.... Thing that makes me mad, is some poeple dont read the specs of the system, so they give it a low rating... Or if its like a pentuim 3 or 4, or a old athalon they think its crap, when actuallly alot arnt.. Like most people have said, I rather get comments, then a score, I see maybe 10 or less on most cases, Id love that to change, people giving suggestions or something...

Well, if n00bs who stay for one day vote, thats bad. If users who know what they are talking about vote, thats good. That way, we get experienced opinions.

Me neither :). Mainly because I'm just too lazy to read through all the posts of a really big forum . There may be a new post every 5 seconds to a certain thread, but it's just WAY too hard to keep track of threads that grow that fast :p. These forums are just fine for me .

amen.

well as a owner of a crap computer i think our system of voting ect is pretty sound. maby somthing that could be done is make it so mods could see who votes what. so if say 3 people are going from case to case to just drop 1s it will throw a flag or somthing. it sounds good i just dont know if it can be done.

this could be a way .. average the votes of a user and if it's too low send him a warning/dont let him vote

Well, i think is not reasonable the minimum post cause there are people like me that doesn't speak very well english and don't post a lot and i think i'm not a noob, lammer or whatever you want

I think the best way is to have "range votes". You can have the rate of all people, the rate of 20-10000 posts people, the rate of 50-10000 posts people, the rate of 100-10000 posts people, the rate of the staff, etc... I don't know if you will understand me (my english is so crappy :p ).

Also you can allow only to rate the people who has show his computer or case.

Well we could add my options to vote on like how it looks 1-5, how much well the mods have been performed 1-5 and etc. So if anyone got a 1 that would atleast have an idea on why they got that

Sounds good to me! Alright I have a picture updating problem again :p. Whenever I try to update pictures, the same one's stay there, and maybe if I'm lucky new one's show up. Any way I could fix this before I have to post "Darth Flatulence rev.2"?

yeah..i hate it when you get a crapload of 1s when it isnt deserving. if the guy who voted ones is banned please let us know who it was...or at least is he was a prominate person.

i added high-res image upload up to 1600x1200 and fixed a bug with the image resizing which squished some images.

just upload llike you would normally, the original image you upload will be used as high-res version, if it's bigger than 1600x1200 it will be sized down to that.

right now all cases have their current "big" images a high res images, so update yours :)
