I have been reading reviews on this card because hopefully at the end of the month i will be able to upgrade. I read on a review somewhere that you need at least a 500w power supply to use this card. The person that said this stated that it fried his PSU because of him not having enough power. I have a 450w power supply and was wondering if anyone knew if it would be ok in my comp. btw, i have 3 case fans (one of those has 4 led's), and a thermaltake volcano cpu cooler (just so you guys know how much juice i'm already using). Just click on my user name to see my other computer specs.

It should have at least a 350 watt PSU. I have an X800 XL, which is basically the same as a GTO except that the GTO has 12 pipes and it runs fine on a 450 watt. 350 watts minimum, 400 watts or over for best performance. You're fine.

How much is your budget because there are some cards that are better for a little more?

between $200-250. i was also looking at the x800 pro, which in a test comparing that and a gto, ran better than the gto. and the pro is only about 40 bucks more. im also gonna get the thermaltake Extreme Giant III vga cooler for it.

Do you want an ATI or is nVidia ok with you?

There is an X1800XT 256mb at newegg.com for 239.99 after the $30 mail-in rebate.
Here:

They also have some X1800 GTO's and a GeCube X850XT PE between your $200-250 dollar price range. Check it out:

If your MoBo doesn't support it, then go with the non-crossfire ones.
I would choose either between the X1800GTO or X1800XT 256mb.
They have pros and cons.
With an X1800GTO, when you get a new mobo with crossfire, you don't need a dongle or a master card, just another X1800GTO
With an X1800XT, you need a dongle and a master card.

But if you know that you're staying single-card for a while or until DirectX10, the the X1800 XT would be my choice. Hope this helps.

They're all good.
X1800XT>X850XTPE>X1800GTO

The normal score on a GTO is about in the high 6000's, but the X850XT PE can reach 7000 easily. The X1800XT is 7000 out of the box and will increas more after overclocking.

the prices on the x1800xt and the x850 pe arent too bad, but those are for pci-e. the agp ones are much more expensive. the x850 pro is more in my pricerange (newegg for 215). thanks for the tips

oh... the X850 Pro would be good then because on most, you can unlock the full 16 pipes and the can overclock alot. That would be my choice for AGP.

No prob. I was behind in computer tech too for a while. Everyone' behind at some point or another. You can't always have the newest things.

I thought you could only unlock pipes on the VIVO versions?

Yeah, there is a VIVO AGP version. Might be difficult to find now, definitely worth looking for though.
