View Full Version : Takin a poll: How much of a jump have you clocked a CPU from its stock speed?

I am takin a poll on how high someone has gpone from the stock CPU speed to what they ran it at. Ive heard some pretty crazy stories of people like melting P2's and crap. I just wanna hear some funny or impresize stuff.

Back when I didnt know about overclocking, I found the bios of my 333 Celeron and I saw you could set it to 800 mhz etc., so I set it to the highest setting (dont remember what it was)
The computer didnt boot, so I unplugged it and then let it sit for a while and plugged it back in. The celeron still works but seems to have some odd problems, not very stable :slap:

well my story also includes a celeron...
i had my first build be a major cheapo build. i had a soyo mobo intel 845pe chipset skt 478. i was messing around with the celeron and decided i would take it to the maxx. it was 27*100 stock but by the time i was done it was 27*140 or 3.78ghz =D. all i had was value ram at cl4, a crappy speeze al cooler and about 1.875vcore. shocking thing is..it only ran at 50c load...

Dude, iam amazed it booted. Did the sucker like melt?
Opteron 146 from 2.0 to 3.1. Over 50 percent increase.

I got my A64 3800+ to 2.5GHZ stable, and either my RAM is bottlenecking, I need to fool with the HTT, or there are a few settings I'm missing, because it didn't go much higher then that .

I got my 3700+ from 2200 to 2910mhz and it was fine (till I tried to take the IHS off)
There should be a rule here "Dont work on your computer when its past 3am"
My poor 3700, rest in pieces....

I have my Sempron 2600 from 1.6 GHz stock to 2.4 GHz, which is a 50% increase :toast:
I got it to boot at 2.6 GHz once, 325 HTT but the board doesnt boot after the first try set at that high of HTT. This cpu could do a lot more but damn low multi :(
All on 1.4 vcore too.

Best OC's:
T-Bred 1.4GHZ @ 2.075 on a KT400 board (12.5 max multi, 166 max FSB - no 200FSB on KT400)
2500+M 1.8GHz @ 2.5 24/7 (bootable over 2.65GHz)
Opteron 148 2.2GHz @ 3.1 GHz
Worst OC:
AMD K6/2-300 (4.5 * 66) @ 333 (5 * 66) max multi and FSB back in the days...
Same CPU on a Super7 mobo = 3 * 100 MHz (windows 95 had a problem booting 350's back then)
AMD K6/2-500 (5 * 100) @ stock :( <-----Piece of crap!!!!!

I forgot to add the best one of all. I had a Pentium3 700 that did 933 everyday, but one day I tried to max it out. It was about 30F degrees outside, I opened the door, stuck the PC in front of it so it would suck air in through the fans on the side (2 x 92mm Panaflos that moved 56CFM each) and managed to get the FSB up to 146 on a BX chipset (no PCI locked back then). That brought the CPU up to 1022MHz, which was almost a 50% increase.

Super air cooling lol. I got this pic ill post soon, its funny. Ok i took off the side panel and put a huge double like window fan onh the side of it(its bigger than the case). And i took these two HUGE steel fans from like acient servers in a mill. Then i took some pipe and suck it in the front where it intake and put the pipes out side my window to suck in like midnight winter air. O yea baby o, yea.

Pentium M dothan from 1.73ghz to 2.6, 51% oc.
And that is a VERY LOW clock for a dothan, I got me a crappy one :/
Oh well, at least I owned an a64 FX55 in 3dmark06 with it.

My current CPU, Socket 478 northwood 2.66 Ghz 512kb cache was OCed to 3.8GHz on my old Asus board, some stability problems on it so I took it down to 3.7. I wanted a larger OC so I got this ABit IC7 from a friend . . . can only get it up to 3.5Ghz Stable, but I was able to unlock my memory with a new cpu/ram ratio. So whatever I lost from drop in CPU speed I basically gained back increasing memory speed. . . meh, I hope Conroes ready for me, I'm looking forward to another 1Ghz+ OC.

I'm running a socket 754 Sempron 64 2600+(1.6Ghz) @ 2.27Ghz stock voltage. Runs 42c under heavy load with a Gigabyte ED821-MF cooler. On a Asus K8N motherboard.

The highest I've got is on my current pc: 2500 from a 3000+ Venice. I'm sure it can do better but I have some pretty shitty ram (Geil Value) that just don't overclock so I'm limited by my mainboards multipliers! :(
I'll try and borrow some Corsairs XMS from a friend and then see what it can do...
Anyway, before this PC I had 2 pieces of crap when it came to OC-ing:
1. AMD Athlon XP 2100+ (not T-bred, Palomino!) :((
2. AMD K6/2 500 Mhz (the crapiest one of all!!!)
I've learned my lesson, I'm sticking to OC capable stuff from now on :D

I have a Sempron64 3000+ @ 2.0Ghz 200mhz increase and I get an average 40 Fps in FEAR with my X800 GT02 @ stock setting at meduim settings yeah 128 kb L2 does really suck

My Opteron 146 run stable @ 3.00Ghz from a stock of 2.00Ghz
And boots to windows @3.10Ghz
That's my first and only CPU overclock.

Best i ever did was with a p4 stock clock speed was 3 ghz boosted it to 4.2
and a bus speed of 1066 fsb ... didn't keep it up there for more than a day
just wanted to see how high i could get it
i was running it all day and was running at about 42 c
that's the best i have done after that windows wont boot :pimp:

Any body completely rape like an archaic pentium or like K-2?
OK, Venice from 1.8Ghz to 2.8ghz stable, over 50% speed increase in mhz, from around 8 gips to over 12.5 gips. 2.9 Ghz possible but unstable. 3Ghz currently not capable (value ram limiting system).

Not the K6-2's, but the old Slot 1 Celerons would do 50% OC (300 MHz to 450MHz).

ahh yes I remember it well celron 300A ran mine at 476 with eec pc 133 memory for over a year no problems. that was at a time when the p2 was not rated at more than 400.right now my 2.8 ht is running @ 3.01 which dont sound that great but heres what it does under sandra
Dhrystone ALU : 9032 MIPS
Whetstone iSSE2 : 6543 MFLOPS
anyway I am going for broke on a pentium D 805 2.66 to see if it will reach 4.0 like they say they can. got the board the cpu and 2 sata 320 hard drive for a lil raid 0 next week 2 gigs of ocz 5200 ddr2 but I cant decide on how to cool it all any suggestion:ohwell:

AMD k6-2 400Mhz with some PC133. Dry ice on the IHS, holding it with a glove.
600's with no problem other than 3.3 to 3.7 overvolt.
It is still alive today working it's ass off at UPS shipping here and F@H, 450Mhz.

I have an Opty 148 running stable at 3.0Ghz, and Athlon 64 3200+ @2.7Ghz, I never fried my cpus, BUT I did at work about 3 years ago, when I worked at CompUSA, they had a nice custom build P4 3.0 system with asus mobo, they had all 3dmark01 and 03 on it, I was overclocking the system all the way till 3.8Ghz, and after I did that the PC got messed up, it was unstable, benchmarks would suck. Another time when I fried a CPU was at PawnAmerica, they were selling this cheap AMD XP system I think something like XP 1700+, I was playing around with it and after couple tries it would boot...ops....:)

You dont wanna burn a PC. They have a lot of toxic crap in them. Popping capacitors arent fun either.

m8! got the same one! those things oc realy smooth, i reaced 3.6 @stock voltage and at a minor increase went to 3.8 Ghz but 4now i can't go furter because my cooling kinda is not enough anymore. @dual load it wants to go over 70 degrees celcius and maybe further...
im still don't know what 2 buy, watercooling or maybe some peltier stuff:confused:
i want to stay mobile for LAN party's so i'm not sure about liquids..
gR3iF
06-06-2006, 11:01 PM
use a watercooling set the one i managed was based on a innovatek xxs system which is an eheim pump a single 120 radiator and a sweet cpu cooler all from innovatek.
only under double prime load the cpu reachs 65 degree
aunder normal load (50% on both cores)
you can just reach 55 degree and its all stable for lan partying :D

I'm planning to get an Intel Pentium D 805 soon. Man can those overclock! The multiplier is set at 20x, and you can get it to 3.6-3.7GHz with no increased voltage. With increased voltage, you can get 3.8-3.9GHz on air. I might get a cheap watercooling like an Aquagate R120 to cool it so I can reach 4.2-4.3GHz or so. I'm not getting it though until Intel's price drop on July 23, the Intel Pentium D 805's are gonna be $93! Newegg is probably going to bring it lower too!!
