Hey guys,

I was just curious as to how low of setting most of the new games would have to be on my new rig (see sig. for Rig #2).
I am getting in a ViewSonic 20.1" Widescreen LCD, so the resolution will be higher and since I only have a X800 128mb card (which is by far the weakest part of the rig), I was curious if medium settings in most games would be adequate.
I know it wont be able to handle High setting like the 7800GT, but it will do until DX10 cards come out so I can spend some money

Since it seems like Rig #2 is more powerful than Rig #1, why don't you switch the graphics cards? The 7800GT would be better on Rig #2. Just a suggestion.

You can probably play most games on 1024x768 or 1280x1024 on medium settings on Rig #2. If you do play on the ViewSonic's max resolution, it would probably be low-medium settings, depending on what games, most probably medium.

I was going to do that, but i am just too lazy to bother with taking out the cards and uninstalling the drivers. Plus I am going to upgrade the CPU on rig #2 anyways so I figured might as well do them both at once. Thanks for the quick response.

honestly, to run games well at the high res, i would just swap the graphics cards. it's kind of a hassle sure, but it's not wasting time if it's utilizing your new investment in the monitor to the best it can be

^True, if you're going to get a monitor with a high resolution(Idk if the 20.1 inch is 1440x900 or 1680x1050), you should use the best graphics card you got to go with it, because it's useless to get a monitor with a high resolution like 1680x1050 but only play at 1280x1024. You'd rather get a 19 inch then instead of wasting money. It's not too much of a hassle though switching cards.

"because it's useless to get a monitor with a high resolution like 1680x1050 but only play at 1280x1024."

no it isnt useless at all... u still get the wide screen factor even if u do use a lower resolution.. just cos your monitor can do a higher resolution it dosnt mean u have to use it..

i have a 20 inch wide screen with a native 1680x1050 resolution.. my favourite resolution with my x850 card was 1400 x 900.. i would use a lower one if the card lacked the grunt to keep the fps up thow..

and even with an x1900xtx card i cant run oblivion at 1680x1050.. the ati cats with a 1900 card for some reason dont let me have my favourite 1400 x 900 which is the one i like the most.. but even that would be too much for oblivion..

but if u use AA and filtering a far lower resolution looks perfectly okay..

Yeah...but why don't you just get a 20 inch monitor that's not widescreen and lower resolution then? It saves you money. Just my opinion though...
