What is the ATI AI option? also, i recently found out that my msi r9800 pro has the 360 core, what does that mean for overclocking and softmodding?

I don't know much about the AI, but did you find out that you had the R360 by taking off the HSF and checking the writing on the core? Because that's the only way to really know. Software just reports what the video BIOS has stored.

The R360 means you can flash the BIOS and make your card a 9800XT, essentially.

Go here for lots of information about this:

i sat around for weeks deciding whether to pull the sink and fan off and the other day i finally did it and it is indeed the 360 core, but now i do notice that i get these odd artifacs in far cry i used to get these artifacs on the game but after i installed the far cry patch it was fine now they are back. do you think that there is a possibility that i mighta hurt my card by removing the sink. i did not scratch it or anything this i am sure of

Did you put more thermal compound on it?

i did, and i think that i put too much on the card was not overheating or anything but when i reached into my case and touched the card it seemed hotter than before i took of the sink so i took it apart again and removed some of the excess paste now heat is no problem i can game for hours and still hold the backside of my finger on the sink and backside of the card comfortably

From what I understand the what the A.I. does is, when enabled does some advanced algorithm to determine the best way to produce an image so that it looks good and also performs well, so i imagine the higher the AI, the more advanced algorithms it uses (negligible image quality reduction?). Apparently its only recommended if u have a fast CPU

I'd imagine that would be the case, since it puts extra strain on the CPU deciding what to use for a given frame. But I thought for sure stuff like that would be handled by the graphics card itself too.

When i see this post i always think of that episode of Red VS Blue where caboose is sounding out AI trying to figure out what it means :D

i guess if the CPU does it it goes faster, the gfx card is prolly busy doin the game to worry about all that stuff but then again i have no idea wut im talkin about

I have heard that when the frames per second go below a certain point the gpu will change the quality of graphics untill the frames per second go back up, er somthing like that kinda makes sence when you think of it
