useless for people who have high speed net connections and low end comps!!

heres the thing, most decent boards today allready have gigabit ethernet integrated with decent chips from yukon or broadcom,
then, the ping depends on your internet provider, internal network lag, unless you have wifi or a really bad switch, wont go over 2-5ms, and in that case, its a transport medium problem, not a nic problem,

the only thing you could use is artifical lag that can create, and thats more or less cheating,

its basicly a usless expencive toy for fanboys, it had no real world aplication

yeah prolly wont help ping times and most onboard nics r good enough.... if your into squezing every last 0.01% out of yur comp then this may be for you.

I'm thinkin that the price might be a little more than what the 0.01% is worth, though...

:)

* Imo, it's going to be GREAT for LAN parties & local home LAN gaming use, but online via the public internet?

Too much is "unpredictable" in IP terms of, for instance:

1.) Shared bandwidth (& trust me on this from having worked in Tier #1 network engineering for CableVision years ago, when they were the fastest thing going & still may be even vs. TimeWarner RoadRunner cable (my two I have used & compared) & now on VERIZON DSL - IT IS ALL SHARED to some extent).

2.) Internet "Weather Conditions" in general (i.e.-> Congested routers, ping times, game servers loads, etc.)

I'm on wireless and the highest ping I ever have to my router now is 2ms :rockout: which I am very pleased with (99% of pings will be 1ms). If this network card could shave those 2ms then good for it - I wouldn't notice and any ping to game servers under 50ms is likely to not have any real effect on how well you play your game. If you want to win, GET BETTER!!!

Your PC isn't too bad but you could do with a graphics card upgrade at least.

save you money and buy (or dl ;)) cfosspeed...does the same thing. All that the killernic is doing is prioritizing packets; and shaping the bandwidth by controlling the act packets...the same thing that cfosspeed does.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! SO POINTLESS! SO MANY VARIABLES! AND FOR 200 DOLLARS! It's like saying, "Hey check out how huge my car is," and the other guy laughing and saying, "Yeah, but you still have to fit it on the same roads, and it simply won't fit. So I guess you'll have to chop off half of it."

Did anyone ever read the technical specifications?

"Tech Specs:
400 Mhz Network Processing Unit: Runs a highly optimized version of embedded Linux. To remove the burden of processing packets from your CPU, as well as deliver the packets extremely fast and efficiently.

64MB DDR: Works in conjunction with the NPU to support the network offload functionality as well as the Flexible Network Architecture.

32 Bit PCI 2.2: Near-gigabit throughput capabilities of PCI bus satisfies the needs of Hardcore Gamers, because online games need gigabit connectivity but not gigabit throughput. PCI is also a very low latency bus.

Nickel-Plated Aluminum Heat Sink: Custom designed heat sink dissipates the heat of the NPU during advanced networking and FNA functions."

Why would you need a 400Mhz processor and linux on a network card? This is so rediculous.

i also think its a load of crap for fanboys,i looked at the price and choked on my cuppa.if i was dirty rich and was building a no holds barred machine,i'd put one in coz cost would'nt matter, only pimpness.it is pimp but is it really worth what their asking..................NO.

I'd love to see proof of the "25% fps increase in fear" with the card. What a load of crap!

hey ive got a computer that is almost equal to this nic card we should bench them and see whats faster a celeron 466 w/ 192mb of sdram and windows 98se or this nic card w/ 400mhz cpu 64mb ddr and linux :D
