Hello all,

Just finished slaving over my computer for about a week, trying to get temps down.
rig's in the sig
Went from 50C, 55-60C idle/load on my CPU, 55C, 60-70C idle/load on my GPU.

Temps are now down to 42C, 50C idle/load on cpu, 45C, 60C idle/load gpu (this is with atitool. i'm guessing games won't get it that hot)

i'm using a zalman VF700-AlCu on the gfx, some huge-arse (120mm) zalman on the x2.

But if i open my case and feel the 7900, the back seems quite a bit hotter than before. Also, waves of hot air are being blown off the heatsink, really hot to the touch.

Is this normal? or am i just paranoid?

btw, theres arctic silver 5 on the cpu and gpu. it hasn't set yet (just started it up for the first time tonite) so will this help it any? doesn't it need time to set in?

also, the x2 heatsink isn't geting hot at all.

any ideas would be great. i just don't want to blow anything.

frogot to add this:

initially, on boot, 3dview in atitool gets about 500-600fps.

after 30min of artifact testing (avg temp 51C), i'm only getting like 150FPS.

anything to be worried about?

no not really, but your x2 is blowing hot air in your case is there an outlet? a fan or something?

and is behind your cpu cooler a outtake fan? so the hot air around your cpu can get out?

well, with my amazing retarded fan mounting skillz, i managed to mount the fans backwards.

so air is sucking in from the back, 2x80mm, and exhausting out the front, 2x80mm.
i also have a 120mm on the side panel in teh center blowing in.

but i'm glad its normal. i'll wait till the ac5 breaks in to see how temps are.

running 40C cpu 46C gpu right now.

thanks for the help!

Nice temps dude, I take it those are your idle temps?
I run 44-45c on my cpu 59c gpu idle atm, untill I get my x2.

But you can get much better CPU temps than that on air, I am running a 4200 x2 at 2.8Gig with 1.55V running through her and check out my temps in my specs. Have 2 fans on my Freezer pro, the spec that comes with it at 2200 RPM blowing the hot air out and a 4200RPM fan on the opther side sucking it out directly into my 120MM case extractor fan.....sweet as a nut! By adding the 2nd fan my load temps dropped by 12C!!!

yeah, those are idle temps.

the hottest i've seen the gpu get was like 62C, when 3dview in atitool was open.
58C after 30min loop of 3dmark06.
52C CPU on load.

might tweak with my case fans for better airflow
