Hi all, I have just bought a new pc. I have an X800GTO2 vid card, and am looking at buying an LCD screen. Does anyone know if an 8ms LCD, such as (Benq or LG) will be fast enough to play HL2 without lag? Thanks!

Personally, I reccomend no more then 12ms response times, or else you'll get ghosting, the one thing worse then lag in games . Depending on your budget, you should get a 19" uber-viewsonic with 2ms response times :). THAT would be awesome...but if not, that 8ms will be fine, and a 19" monitor would be even better. Happy gaming :D.

yep get a 19" LCD.

I reccomend using newegg, look over their reviews to find the best 19" for the money. For Response time pretty much anything under 8ms these days will not give you ghosting, but be sure to check reviews just in case.

Benq and LG make great LCDs, but look into Scepter, Acer, NEC, and Viewsonic.

My Samsung 19" TFT 8ms 700:1 (1280x1024) is pretty responsive and was under £200

I have no complaints with it at all, me loves it in fact. =]

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 204B. It has a 5ms response time. When I first got it I could notice some difference between this and my old CRT. I don't know if it was ghosting or not though. I immediately got used to it after a couple days though. Just make sure that whatever LCD you get, make sure you can run it's native resolution in all of your games. If you have to run a lower resolution than say 1280x1024 in any of your games, it will look very blurry. Having to run it's native resolution for the sharpest picture is about the only negative to an LCD though.

I agree with zekrahminator, dont go anything above 12ms response time for gaming. Ive got an AMW 17" 8ms TFT and its great for gaming (max resolution is 1280 x 1024)

I used to have a 15" Advent TFT but the response time must have been something like 20ms because I used to get quite a bit of 'ghosting' with it, which is no good if you have a nice graphics card :)

samsung 204b is a sick monitor. or the viewsonic vx922 (the 2ms one referred to earlier). with an x800gto2 (i have one too) i decided to get the samsung with the 1600x1200 for acouple of reasons: it will run most of my games at native res w/o issues (UT2004 for example), and a big point for me was the dot pitch (the amount of pixels per area) think about it: a 19" monitor (4:3 therefore the dimensions of the side are less than 12 and 16 with 1024 and 1280 pixels, respectively. my monitor, the 204b, is 20", or 12X16" exaclty, with 1200X1600 resolution, respectively. doing the math, the pixels are much more finely placed. that was my motivation to jump up to a 20" from a 19") also, the samsung is pretty good at scaling down resolution.

8ms should be fine for most any game, except the twitchiest games (a la UT, again) and anything but the most discerning eyes. newegg has the samsung on huge rebate (i think still)

I recently replaced my LG1930BQ 19" 12ms LCD with a Samung 204B 20.1" 5ms LCD. Now I never really noticed any "ghosting" on the LG perhaps a little tearing when I would say whip around real quick in something. The Samsung tho I barely see that anymore but overall the LG was a great Monitor(My missus is using it now) but I upgraded my Rig and I felt like I was choking my X1900XTX at 1280x1024 tho its perfect for the Missus's X800XT

I recommend a Sceptre LCD. They are cheap, but fantastic. Newegg has them. It has an 8ms response time, and it has a very very high contrast level. Great LCD for a budget.

Samsung 8ms is on sale for $179 after rebates :). Other then that, here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Description=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=&OEMMark=-1&Manufactory=1146&Manufactory=1077&Manufactory=1316&Manufactory=1623&Manufactory=1112&Manufactory=1315&Manufactory=1583&Manufactory=8941&Manufactory=1226&Manufactory=1591&Manufactory=1254&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=3106%3A21401&PropertyCodeValue=3106%3A21391&PropertyCodeValue=3106%3A21402&PropertyCodeValue=3106%3A21395&PropertyCodeValue=3106%3A21378&PropertyCodeValue=3106%3A21398&PropertyCodeValue=3106%3A21380&PropertyCodeValue=3106%3A21400&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&Submit=Property&SubCategory=20) is a newegg search of all monitors that I think would work for a gamer like me :D. I'd reccomend UPS shipping for this kind of stuff, newegg does a good job filling UPS boxes with extra styrofoam and/or bubble wrap. You'd hate to spend $200 and get a dead monitor :p.
