Hi all.
I'm newbie and hope to be in right section.
I'm trying ti Install XP Pro on Aspire E500 with 250 Gb SATA HD but without lucky till now.
I'd dowloaded the drivers from Acer site, and when XP ask me the drivers I put they on pc...the installation start...XP format the partition like I want and after start to copy files..at the end reboot.
Well...after reboot the installation don't continue but I have a blue screen with errore 0000078 or 000007B and the write on the screen that say me to use "chkdsk / f on my HD".
So I thought that is a Driver problem...In this section I read about a SATA II ...maybe is this the problem ?? ...What is exacly SATA II ?
Tx to all help me
Giovanni

Do you have any other diskdrives hooked up to your PC when you are installing your Operating System to this SATA disk (such as other harddisks, or IoMega IDE internal drives)?
I have had "troubles" using my SATA disks during installation, IF I leave an IoMega IDE internal disk hooked up & enabled, OR an external USB SATA 2.0 disk enclosure hooked up here.
I also have to keep my regular onboard SATA & RAID IDE or RAID SATA enabled also. If I turn them off? I get errors, but not of the nature of your own - I get ones like "Disk cannot be found", if I leave the regular onboard SATA & RAID IDE or RAID SATA firmware functions in my system's BIOS turned off!
Odd, but how it is.
Now, if I turn the onboard firmware SATA & RAID IDE + RAID SATA enabled (and remove the external USB SATA 2.0 drive enclosure + internal IoMega IDE 250mb disk)?
I can install the OS, no problem, to my disks driven off of a Promise RAID Caching Controller... otherwise, if I do NOT do all of the above?
I get "cannot find disk" during OS installation!
APK
P.S.=> In other words, if you have other diskdrives of SATA nature there or even IDE or USB external nature there?
Remove them temporarily, & make sure ALL OF YOUR SATA & IDE onboard motherboard slots are enabled, & that any RAID functions are enabled, & THEN, try to install your SATA disk & see what happens...
Perhaps your problem is like mine (not really a problem, more of an inconvenience & idiosyncracy imo) & can be 'circumvented' by this trick I have to use for installing an OS to my system... Good Luck! apk

I think what you need to do is find the SATA drivers that go on a floppy disk and when installing XP press F6 to install the drivers then you should have no issues with it.

ACER have preinstalled S.O. and no driver disk or other things.
When you turn on the pc you finisch to install the system and after you can master a DVD with image of the S.O. in this case XP Home. If you see the Partitioning disk you ca see that
there's the 1st partition thats EIDE type and inside there's the drivers and the 2th partition is with S.O. Unfortunately I'd lost the 1st partition for my mistake and now I want reinstall the Windows XP.
Have you any idea, how to do ?

No. I Haven't Add nothing, but in the ACER Aspire E500 in the front panel thare are 4 card-readers that I see during POST...Is not possible disconnect these reader.
During POST phase I see a card-reader, a DVD and HD,but sometimes the HD is seen like IDE and POST hung itself when this happen.
I checked too the BIOS entry and they seems ok
P.S.=> In other words, if you have other diskdrives of SATA nature there or even IDE or USB external nature there?
Only the card-readers on board...Do you know a system to disable these ? I can't disable USB because I have the floppy too that is USB.
Any idea ?
Tx for your suggestion
