The OLPC project gains momentum, as Nigeria orders one million OLPC laptops. While at first there was some dispute whether it was one million OLPC's or one million dollars worth of OLPC's, it is now confirmed that Nigeria has bought one million OLPC laptops. Brazil, Argentina, and Thailand have placed similar obligations to the revolutionary project. The goal of the OLPC project is to distribute a complete and affordable laptop system to needy children across the world. Supported by large companies such as AMD, Ebay, Google, Nortel, Red Hat, along with other companies, the OLPC is scheduled to be launched in 2007. It will come with a 500MHz processor, a 7.5" screen, 500MB of flash memory, and wireless broadband for creating instant wireless networks with nearby OLPC laptops.

Wiki from http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Home

A recent article in DesktopLinux reported that four countries have each committed to buy one-million laptops. The OLPC spokesperson was misquoted: no agreement has been signed. We continue to cooperate with Thailand, Brasil, Argentina, and Nigeria, but no one has committed to purchase laptops nor has OLPC asked anyone to sign a purchase agreement. We apologize for any confusion.
