I'm building a new computer, and have ordered everything but the videocard cause i'm still in a little debate over what I should get. I plan on eventually getting a second card for crossfire, so please take that into consideration.
HIS X1800GTO

Sapphire X1800GTO2

On one side, I really like the cooler on the HIS card, and the price is really good. With just a little bios flash and some voltage changes, I'm sure I could get the clocks pretty high and 16 pipes. As for the GTO2, this card comes with all 16 pipes unlocked and 512mb of memory, but I think a modified bios for higher voltages and clocks may be necessary for it to show its true power. I was also curious as to how well the ATI reference dual slot cooler works. Any input on the subject would be very helpful, thank you!
If you're planning on crossfire without a X1800 crossfire card, you can't flash it into a XT
I would go for the x1800GTO 2

Well if you tweak the bios of the GTO you can get 16 pipes without having to flash to an XT and not use cableless crossfire.

The X1800GTO2 is like the X1800XL, the X1800GTO is much less than that...

I wouldnt get either, here in the UK at least the difference between a X1800GTO\2 and a X1800XT is only £10 or so, and when you consider the X1800XT is better than a X1900GT, X1800GTO\2 stock or overclocked, it makes sence to buy the X1800XT :D
NB: ONLY get the X1900GT if theres a good chance you can mod it to unlock the quad.

There are just too many different cards with names that make little sense in the ATI lineup. I have to go to wikipedia's comparison page just to figure out what has what half the time.

In a nutshell, the X1900GT is a throwback, X1800XT still holds in there as like 3rd best ATicard to buy, X1900GT is basically on par with a 7800GT, not good..

I wish they would come up with a rating system for their cards that was easy to figure out. Maybe even something like a 3dmark score. Not actually a 3dmark score, but something similar. So a Radeon 8000 would be better than a Radeon 7000. I mean they should just write some graphical benchmarking software, use it to benchmark their cards, and then label them accordingly. If they wish to differentiate between two generations, they could simply do something like Radeon X 8000 then Radeon X2 9500 or whatever. I know it will never happen, but I doubt that I’m the only one that wishes it would. Right now there is no way to just look at the names and know which is best. You ALWAYS have to look at the specifications. Why’s an XT better than a GT and what’s the difference between x1900 and x1800? The arbitrary number system annoys me.
Get this, cheaper and better.
