I have a Radenon 9550 Powercolor 256MB 128 BIT (according to the box) so i have been browsing round, looking for people asking on how to overclock it. I downloaded ATiTool and followed this advice:

The safest, best way to overclock your video card is using ATiTool.

ATiTool basically automatically overclocks and tests your card for stability at the same time.

Set it, and sit there watching your core go up.

Once it starts to back down a bit, stop it, and subtract 5-10Mhz off that overclocked speed. Then it will be 100% stable. Do the same with the RAM.

I also noticed that most people overclocking the Radeon 9550 were able to achieve 400+ in some cases even very close to 500 core though im not to sure on memory a few people seem to get around 210 and leave it there, others have said that they get 300.

Anyhow so i unlocked the lock on my card using ATITool so i could overclock it, i pressed the Find Max Core button and sat there for about half an hour watching it go up, then stop and do a 'heat-up phase' then start going up again, however when i got to around 315 it just dosen't go up anymore. Now when i was browsing i heard atleast 2 or 3 people say that a 9550 is just an underclocked 9600 which the 9600 has the default speed core of 325. My question really is that, am i doing something wrong? Because according to most others I should be getting alot higher then 315 for the core speed

Any help would be appreciated thanks :D

on the whole 9550's are really 9600, this isnt the case.

first of all you need and 128bit memory bus version.

if you do have this version then overclock it to 9600 speeds (400 core/300memory) and see if its stable. if stable then bios mod.

some of the newer 9550 have slower memory so then you would only be able to reach about 220'ish before you crash out or artifacts showing.

what i did for a friends 9550, was to set the core to 400 and left the memory at 200, this got him about an extra 10fps in NFS MW and DOOM3 which he was happy with.

I'll check if it is 128 bit memory bus, when i get home - but i'm pretty sure it is. Are you sure that if i set it to 400 i wont harm the card? Because as i say when i set max core, it will only go up to about 320 before it just stops and dosen't go up anymore.

Where you ment to say something else here? Or was it just the 128bit memory

Thanks :)

Edit: At home now, had another check:

+ 0.1V and increase agp frequency, safe OC 68-72..

as you have a RV350 core, that version of the 9600 has a core of 325 and memory 200.

so overclocking to 325 should be easy. if you can overclock to this then you should be able to flash it to a 9600 with ease.

Savor.... stop telling people to increase the vgpu. You've said this in every thread i've read about someone wanting advice about their graphics card

I admire your enthusiasm, but watch other members and learn, then you can provide a much better quality advice ;)

And fyi, 68-72 is pretty hot high for even using stock voltage... you don't wanna be increasing voltages at those temps.

I can't overclock it to 325, i get artifacts showing. >.<
