I have notice cooling my ram on my video card almost gives me zero performance gains. Anyone else notice this aswell. :twitch:

Yea, its true of system RAM as well, the truth is that heatsinks and heatspreaders on memory make very little difference. Mind you, if it lowers the temperature a little, it should help to prolong the life of the silicon, even if you can't run it any faster.

I've noticed that better cooling on the Vid card Core gives a better OC on the memory.

This goes with the thinking that excess heat from the core bleeds across the Vid Cards PCB and heats up the memory....limiting the memories clock speed.

I found this out when I had a 9800Pro and slapped on a copper HS and high RPM fan to the core(No Ramsinks).....found I could then get an extra 20-30Mhz out of my memory.......slapped on some Ramsinks...and couldn't get any more out of the memory......but It looked cool...so I left them. :D

Yes, I noted the same, on a "radical mod" I did to a GeForce 4 Ti4600 AGP vidcard 2-3 years ago, noted in the photo below:

&

BOTTOM SIDE

:)

* Note, I used old powersupply heatsinks (aluminum) on the topside for memory (plus some 23 cfm fans on exterior of them, & 486 cpu fans for the interior), & 486 CPU/Heatsink combos on the bottom-side for the RAM memory... I used "Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive" for the attachment of the heatsinks to the memory event horizon, & same on the Pentium III all copper CPU cooler + 23 cfm fan I used for its GPU!

I didn't get HUMUNGOUS returns on o/c's of it, but did get slightly better than most folks did (for the amount of effort though? Bad "ROI" imo...) but, did see longevity for sure!

(That card's STILL running to this day in a Dual CPU/SMP Pentium III 1.1ghz o/c'd system a buddy of mine bought from me to use it as a server in his business!)

5 years running strong from cooling that way, & overclocked as far as these could go, & THEN some!

Man Alec, you seem to love air cooling more than me.

Well, I guess... it's more of the fact that I have NEVER tried "hydro-cooling" solutions yet to date imo @ least, & that I don't have the balls to, lol!

I placed a little 40mm TT fan on stilts (screws) and now it is under my X800. Yay ghetto.

Heh, I am ALL with doing "ghetto style" mods & cooling, if they work!

:)

* Cheap & effective is OK in my book, by all means!

(I used to keep my cases open & put a $20 dollar K-Mart box fan next to the open side of the case - can't touch it for "cfm" of airflow... may look stupid, but IS effective!)

I find that memory cooling helps eliminate the random flickering in my games :D.
