Wondering If anyone is into drift racing, or actually drift races, My buddy does, and it looks very very fun. Rear Wheel drive, Manual, light car, all you need... Seems fun

At the except of America everyone uses Manual gears cars wich are much better, i like drift too but i don't practice (don't have car yet)

At other countries automatic is a lot more expensive, and people can't afford them, so they go with stick-shift.

Manual is in general better for racing/drifting, etc.

SOely because of the pure control you get from it.. I would NEVER try doing a serious race or drifting in an automatic... unless it was a high end porsche or ferrari auto gearbox..

I really want to go to Japan. not just drifting, like everything else. But then again I want to go to South Korea too.

I got to 55 km/h on my bike, it can pass a FIAT 500 :D

btw: if you try a car with manual gear box, it gives a lot more control to you over the car, even in games it happens
I would like to go to Japan too.....

You would need new tires every week.

I know that manual is better...it's kind of obvious, it gives you faster acceleration(when done right)

Only if you race every day. :nutkick:

more like every hour. practice sessions easily go threw 2-8 sets of tires in a day. watch the latest f&f movie. the story sucks but all the drifting is real.

Noob question - how do you decide the winner? What keeps a person from just "drifting" less and thus going faster?

mine has pedals too, i'm talking the top speed you got with it, no matter the terrain, my 55km/h were made in a road with about 30% of inclination :rockout:

If you can overtake the other person while drifting, that'll get you points...but it's really who has better drifts, who can stay drifting longer, and who can drift closest to walls(edge of the road etc..) without hitting it. My cousin taught me all about drifting, he got too many pink slips so he's retired.

What a silly sport if you want to call it that get some hard tires and burn them going around and around. its really just dirt track racing without dirt.oh and its not raceing its seeing who can uncontroll a car better without getting traction.............................stupid :nutkick:

It requires a vast amount of skill to be able to do it with any success.

I love people who blackball new or upcoming types of sports and the like and try and compare it with something else when there really is no comparison.

agreed. i can drift on my longboard at about 20mph..thing is once u regain traction its really hard not to fall. sidenote i clocked in at 37.8mph today with a handheld gps :rockout:

I was taught precision driving by a guy I used to know. BMW 5 series 540i that was turned up.

Slip shifting
Clutchless shifting
Power take off (burning the clutch to maintain traction)
Borderline braking (pending lockup)
Drifting
and a few stunts.

Nothing like making the others in the car fear for their life while you laugh. :D Virtually every person that has ridden with me has claimed to be scared for their life.

My personal toys include

85 Chevy pickup, 400 smallblock @ .030 over, 12.5:1 compression, bla bla bla
94 Toyota Celica, 1.8 starting to mod it. Looking for a turbo kit.
94 Olds Achiva, 3.1 hand ported, modded engine management, lightweight rims and sticky tires.

I can make the two cars powerslide, or drift if you prefer even though they are both front wheel drive, weight and how you handle a car is everything. Freaks people out and they begin to scream, buncha babies.

You're nuts :p , i personnaly would like to drive an AMBULANCE in a simulated emergency, just to get those VW PASSAT to the max (especial ambulances for quicker pickup of persons), we have normal vans too

EDIT:Forgot to post, since my dad saw me driving on NFS Most Wanted with a Porsche Cayman at 370km/h in a highway he says he won't pay me the driver licence (i think is just getting excuses for me not to have it)

I've scared quite a few people in my day too, even had my 1986 Ford Ranger w/2.9l FI/5speed on two wheels(not the back wheels lol).

Drifting does take skill, and it's absolute fun, that's why people make it into a sport.

You have to know your cars borders, when it becomes uncontrollable, etc. It takes a lot of practice.

How is it anymore different than drag racing really? Or nascar?(rhetorical question)

A licence/car is a valuble asset for a person (duh), well if I had mine I could go back to my old job, I would not have to take the bus that takes a couple hours to get to some places.
I can see where hes coming from but do your racing in the game, be smart on the roads "especially" if your using his car.

vast amount of skill to burn rubber ? you have never seen dirt track raceing but you are right no comparison the cars on dirt track do pass on the stirght aways and dodge on the turns something a drift driver does not have to contend with. just make smoke and wearout the enigine............waste :slap:

I agree that it takes skill to keep it going for so long and whatnot, but I still think it's all very retarded. Taching out the engine all the time going around turns.. Long burnouts in general just burn my eyes. It's so hard on a car. I'm a drag race guy myself. I've always said powerslides = sweet, drifting = gay. I respect the drivers and the skill in takes, just not a fan of the sport.

Not if you have a good car, rear reer drive, rear end welded, ligh weigt. If you have a f$#@ monte carlow with a super charger, sure you ruin it cause you stall while drifting... Manual is the only way to drift, Never seen any of my buddys ruin theres so far, NE drift team.

If you have proper equipment meant for drifting, nothing will go wrong(unless your driving is bad).

Drifting is not racing. racing is going from point A to point B faster then someone else.
drifting is a driving competion that is judged by others, and I don't think there is a uniform system for giving points. Example is it more points to drift closer to a wall, or is it worth more to stay away from the wall a little and keep the smoke comin a little longer. totally up to how the dude feels that day that is giving out points. way to hard to legitimize that .

Azn Tr14dZ
08-09-2006, 05:07 AM
You do get points and all. The closer you are to a wall without touching it is a big plus. Also, passing the other racer, though not required, will be really good for you as it gives you a better chance of winning (passing a racer while drifting is a big plus, as it shows that you are drifting well and far and the competitor isn't getting much distance with his drifts).

regg187
08-09-2006, 01:19 PM
I didn't mean points as "points" I meant it as you put it a big plus. how do you judge which plus will be bigger on which day without some uniform system. one thing I've noticed alot is the person leading is usualy throwing the biggest drift , but he can because he is in front and passing is very very limited, due to the narrowness of most tracks.but as stated before why not if in second cut your drift short and HOOK UP your tires to out accelerate the leader. WHY because it is a show not a race.
