Don't know if you all have seen these DX10 shots, so i thought i'd share.
This is Microsoft Flight Simulator X, running native DX10, i'm pretty sure.
Looks amazingly awesome!

Granted, this IS a flight sim game. I'm waiting to see how new fps dx10 games look like....

the clouds look pretty good, but what i love is the desert dunes in the second one

yea, sims are never as gorgeous as others, esp msoft flight sim, they pack so much detail into the geography and such. The boefore and after pic at the bottom looks like blah to real world pic from a plane around the appalachian

agreed. but the water fx look really really cheesy. like jell-o in some scenes.
Heres a ton more screenshots (56 to be exact.)

hmmm, you can still make out the squre edges from the wireframe in some of the screenshots. They should use software to smooth them, shame they didn't attempt it in DX10 :(

I like how the ground below looks in the first shot (buildings & grounds look REALLY sharp) & the sand in the 2nd from the top shot (looks realistic)... & the third shot from the top grounds look ALMOST "photo-realistic"...

dx10 looks really good for some stuff, but other stuff looks a bit weird.

perhaps because its still in beta. hopefully, they'll get the kinks worked out.

I don't see anything here (except maybe some of the shadows in the dunes picture) that represents Dx10 visuals. The most noticeable features of Dx10 are soft water edges, soft shadow edges, multi-layered water in motion, soft smoke edges (i.e. no more 'sheets' of smoke as it meets a flat surface and there's an obvious line).

These pictures just look like somewhat high resolution photo imaged screenshots...

2004 vs X? Doesn't seem all that fair :)

How about some X DX9 vs DX10 shots?

true it's different but that's not the point. The after photo is a newer version of the game, of course the graphics are going to look better, this does nothing to show off how good dx 10 is because the advantages of dx 10 are minimal.

I know! I completely neglected to look at the date the thread started, got to post#5 and was like: "Holy Sh*tmonkey! Alec is BACK!

My pulse rate was able to slow down once I noticed the post was dated 8/04....2006!

What manner of thread necromancy is this!:shadedshu

people banging on the voodoo drum and practicing necromancy again, I see . . . we need to keep an eye on things or people'll be swinging chickens 'fore we know it . . .

Whether YOU find them 'minimal' or not, this thread and/or these pictures are irrelevant to that position.

Yes, we can clearly see visual differences between some of the older and newer pictures. So? So what? That still isn't representing the advances DX10 brings, of which I've already mentioned.

Why not shave some cost off the RAM, by going with some DDR 2 800 (you'd get tighter timings) and put it towards the GTS 512? The difference between the GPUs is going to be much more beneficial than the slight advantage of having the extra 1 or 2 gigs of RAM, provided you aren't using the machine as a multi-media/modelling/photo editing station etc.

It's something to think about I suppose.

Err... Think about getting a 8800GTS 512MB instead?
