AGP 4x & 16 pipelines

Hi folks, I have AGP 4x and if I were to upgrade from a Radeon 9700 to the Radeon X 800XL, would I be able to get 16 pipelines from the card?

Also, is going to the X 800XL and upgrade from my 9700? If not, not would you recommend?

That would be a huge upgrade and you would get all 16 pipes. The difference between 4X and 8X is almost meaningless and you would barely notice the difference in benchmarks and you wouldn't notice the difference in real world use. Make sure your board has the proper voltage for the X800 XL before you buy it.

b1lk1, thanks for the quick reply and info. I've been reading a lot of reveiews of AGP cards, and it gets to be quite overwhelming to decide on one. Are there any other cards that would be better in your opinion for gaming.

What games do you play, and at what resolution? I see some people getting 7900GTX SLI and X1900XTX in CrossFire, but they only play at 1024x768, which is a waste.

I play BF@ and SOFII at resoulution 1280x1024

X800XL should be plenty enough at your resolution.
