You answered your own question, but you seem to be too dumb to realize it.

It works fine with 1Gig on my system, now didnt I tell you a couple of weeks ago that meesly power supply would catch up with you? your card aint performing at 100% with anything less than a 350W for an 850xt (ATI spec...not mine)...... but hey!....what do I know :D Ohhh and bone face with the lesser rig than you has 550W!!!

Yeah, shut down all that crap in the background too. Otherwise, turn down the res and details. That power supply is gonna pop and take out other parts. There is no logical reason to run a cheap underpowered PSU.

Been telling him that for weeks!

Lol no problem, the point I was tryin to make to him is that you may have a lesser rig but at least it is powered adequetly!

I've dealt with bf2 on a wide range of videocards. (6600gt, x700pro, x800gto, x800gto unlocked 16p, x1800gto, unlocked x1800gto, x1900gt) The key to haveing great performance with BF2 is 2 gigabytes of ram. With an x700pro you can pull off a mix of high/medium settings with a little AA and AF if you have 2 gigs, and it doesn't 'lag' at all. When you start trying to set everything to high with AA and AF while raising your resolution, its a necessity to have that extra amount of ram. Also going through the windows xp optimization guide on this site may be of some use. One program i found that will help in general is tune xp. [ http://www.driverheaven.net/dforce/showdoc.php?doc=txp_download ] You could have an FX-62, (or a conroe for those on the bandwagon), crossfire X1900XT's and a gig of ram, but the guy with 2gigs of ram and an A64 3700+ is still gonna beat your framerates (at least minimum, which is what i would consider more important). For this game, that extra amount of ram really does make a difference, I believe i recorded it as using about 1.3 gigs of ram at peak moments. Another thing i noticed was that onboard audio can really eat some precious CPU cycles, w/ the addition of a sound card you would probably get " that much more " performance, every little thing helps. This is of course all i have to say without poking fun at Le Intal.

Going from onboard sound to Audigy 2 decreased the amount of skipping in BF2. Running hardware sound @ high too.

In fact i noticed that going from onboard -> SBA2 Platinum helped not only gaming performance but also even just general desktop usage, whereas sometimes it would seem the processor would skip a beat for sound, after the addition of a sound card it was a pretty much lag-less environment.

I KNOW for a fact half of my issues are sound...cos the sound is what stutters mostly...and when the BF2 tutorial guy comes up in game when you first install...it lags even more.

Shall I turn the sound down and see if it makes any difference?? Also...whats harder...hardware acceleration or software acceleration???

Somebody reccomend a good value sound card that will smoothen out my BF2?? (And looks good in my specs) :p

i was wondering is it better to go with onboard ethernet or getting a seperate card for that

having onboard or a seperate ethernet adapter wont make much of a difference in performance.

You have the same problem that I do, a bum power supply. Oblivion lags REALLY bad when I overclock, I found out that my 12V rail was being sucked down to 11.95V. That is why I am going to be picking up an Antec 500W PS very soon.

Get 2gb of ram and a better powersupply before wasting your money on other shit.

:shadedshu

EDIT: ^^^11.95 isn't bad, and is within tolerance. My Antec NeoHE 550watt dips down to 11.90 sometimes, but then again you can't really trust software readings, I wanna test it with a multimeter.

Look around for a used/second hand Audigy 2 (regular, not LS or value or some other shit). They can be softmodded to Audigy 4 or Audigy 2 ZS. I got mine for $40 @ Anandtech.

It sounds like the majority of your problem is you being too lazy to shut down programs before running BF2. With 1 gb of system ram, BF2 needs ever mb it can get for smooth gameplay. Close everything except maybe xfire.

Also drop your settings, 6x AA is way overkill for an X850XT and the resolution you play it. Its killing performance with no visual difference from 4x maybe even 2x.

You know... once you go 2 gigs... you don't go back. :rockout:
