Assuming its a socket 939 processor, then yes. I would check your motherboard for any BIOS revisions and flash it to the latest version before swapping out your 3500+ though, just to make sure everything will be alright.

well its an msi 7093 mb and its a 939 socket and i have the lastest bios update so i should be able to just pull my old processor and put in the new one and boot up with no problems it will just boot and work the same

You're going to get a great CPU, but don't forget about the rest o the system so you can have the max. performance with it ;)
Edit: not sure if your PSU can handle a FX60

yea, the msi 7093 comes standard on a lot of oem boxes, but it's a great matx pci-x board, cept for the lack of oc options. i personally, if i were you, would put that money into a new psu, mobo, and get a cheaper proccy, and then oc it. you will get better performance than an unoverclocked fx-60 (generally)
(maybe even get a new case... so you can get a full size atx board = cheaper/better performance)

well at the time i get my fx60 im going to get a new psu 400 watt or higher and a new ati card like a x1900 but which one im not sure i dont know the difference between the different types of x1900's and i cant go crossfire because i only have 1 pci-e slot so i need to know which ati is the best one by its self and i wont go nvidia so no one try to pursuade me to go green on cards i love ati

Agreed, 110% & part of what made me leave a LONG TRADITION HERE (7 years straight in fact) on Intel & before 1998? Another 6 years in fact!
Great update/upgradeability path on s939 boards... so, when prices drop & all that? I can jump over to an Opteron 165 later (possibly, I don't know yet & also because iirc, (and I may need info. here?), you have to buy ECC memory too)...

She sounds like a smart chick!
I figure it THIS way - she's either looking out for YOU, so you can save "coins/deadpresidents", or looking out for herself (making SURE you spend the ca$h on her, instead of computer parts, lol!)
Either way? She's A-OK in my book, lol!
:)
* You can tell her that if you like, ought to be an interesting reaction on her end... lol!

dude, i have a gf, and don't say you're pussy whipped, because it's not true. being in a healthy relationship is great (i know you're just saying it so jealous people don't call you out :-p)
anyways, i don't really understand if she doesn't want you to spend a lot or buy a lot of parts (possibly putting the comp out of commission during repair/upgrade? is that the issue?). but buying an overclocking mobo and cheaper cpu will net you more performance for cheaper. btw, i would go with the x1900xt over the xtx because the price differential is too great for the performance bump (imo). however x1950 stuff is coming out soon, andthat is supposed to be faster, so idk.
and a 400w psu is really cutting it close, if not underpowering your system with a top of the line cpu and gpu (the x1900's pull the juice man!)
i would go 500w, min, prolly 550 or 600w.
lastly, don't skimp on a psu, esp with expensive hw, you don't want your 20$psu blowing your $1000 pc

alright, than what you have listed is good, but keep in mind what i said about the x1950, it might make other's drop price but be the new performance king. and get a high quality psu. i don't have much experience with high quality psu's tho :D so maybe some elses can help you out

Yeah, looking at your specs everything seems pretty damn good. Processor may be older, but its still a good performer... only things i would change are the videocard and powersupply.
As for women.
