Wait.. Isn't ATi just a brand? It's not a technology. Ati is a company, not a product. I assume AMD want's to do something out of the technology they get when the buy-up is completed, not just throw it away. They have a plan, and I wanna see what it is.

So, I won't sign it.

The name is not only at risk dude. So is the high end graphics, and crossfire. At least that's what roumors are pointing out. The roumor of the merger was true, so I'm not taking any chances.

AMD themselves have stated they dont want to kill the ATI brand. This petition is retarded and an act if blindness.

It wouldn't even make sense to kill the ATI brand... :wtf:

are you always that retarded? the main beef here is we like the word ATi and would like both divisions to continue with their own plans, only now carry the mutual advantage of sharing eachothers technology to forward AMD CPUs and ATi GPUs. trying to make everything operate as one will inevitably result inn lackluster implementations unless VERY careful, something no manufacturer has ever successfully managed yet.

Quoting AMD:
However, AMD has backtracked on that position, saying no such decision has been made and that it maintains a strong commitment to the ATi brand.

Spokesperson Eric DeRitis told Custom PC: 'AMD has no plans to drop the ATi brand name or ATi's product brands. The ATi name will live on at AMD as our leading consumer brand, and so will the Radeon brand and other ATi product brands.

Yep, sure looks like they're trying to kill the Ati brand name.

Better get yer petitions warmed up!

Uhh it was stated by the person who runs ATi that he has no emotional attachment to the name and he will let it go.

and you trust the word of a spokesperson thats paid to lie through their teeth and say just what ppl want to hear? equally rumors shouldnt be believed either. only when its done and the decison made will the damage be done, not before.

And that dude is probably being canned. Thats probably why he said it.

Not like he probably has any say in it anyways.

HIM letting it go != AMD letting it go.

1+1 isnt 5!

What is the difference, and why would you care?
AMD bought, not merged with, ATI.
I expect to see AMD Radeons in stores before to long...Truthfully I dont care at all. As long as they keep pushing the tech and I can get my hands on the AMD x2000, or whatever the next top gen card is, then awesome. As long as it beats out the ATI x1900, and gives Nvidia good competition, then Im happy and as consumers we end up winning.

I have no preference between Nvidia and ATI. I own a x1900xtx because at the time it was the best. Not because it was ATI.

Do you really think AMD is going to just give Nvidia the high-end market? I think that is ridiculous.

Hard to say without some better facts. If you ask me, AMD is more interested in the chipsets than the video cards.

Everyone stop panicing.....Rediculous to say the least.....It's a freaking name....they can call It the Fabulous Dustbuster for all I care as long as It runs well.

Anywho.....the Story Is BS......Another BS rumor more than likely perpetuated by Intel and Nvidia Loyalists.

No. The rumor is not true, it seems. And it'll be a looong time before they ditch highend graphics. The market has to change first.

What I DO want to see, and hopefully will, is more effective cards that don't need a 653436W-PSU to run properly.

Nor did it really make sense to buy ATI, but they did. Also, once a company acquires another, the name goes. At the very least, the names are sort of incorporated with one another, but ATI-AMD doesn't quite have a ring to it, so it's a logical conclusion.

ATMDI almost sounds catchy! And I agree, ATI is building the strogest cards right now without a doubt. Noone can really figureout why they bought ATI, but to instantly scrap the high end video would pull the plug on and real profits they'd see from the aquisition. I still say AMD wanted their hands on the chipsets and the GPU's are just a bonus. If they can also get CPU tech onto a GPU then they would also do some serious damage to Nvidia's profits. The part I really like is not Nvidia has nothing to fear from ATI as AMD would never do anything to harm their relationship with Nvidia. They have alot to offer to each other. Intel still seems to be the only loser in the whole deal since they just told everyone to screw.
