View Full Version : Quake 4 troubleeeee

so i have quake 4 on 2 of my PC's and the problem is i have the key on my first pc...and tried installing the same copy on my new PC and it says "cd-key in use" so i unplug my internet connection so it loads up plug back my internet connection when im playing the single player mode it randomly restarts my PC only with quake 4...and thats only playing on high settings ...i play fear and oblivion on high also and that doesnt happen...anyone know if theres away to bypass the whole "in game phone home key register thing" i heard it randomly checks your cd key to make sure its "valid" while playing single and multiplayer game :( its annoying cause i want to beat the damn game but every 10 min or so it restarts my PC...thanks in advance

Erm, thats odd. If you aren't connected to the internet, then it shouldn't be communicating with the other computer. Try patching it.

no its when i connect to the internet....(reconnect the cable) playing single player it randomly connects to the quake verification server...thus rendering my key as "in-use" cause of my other pc...and boots me off -_- :(

Interesting. Mine has never done this :wtf:


(you're only allowed one running copy at a time as per the license anyways.... stop running 2 at a time ;) or get another cd key.. or a no cd crack... but you wont find any help with those here :P )

You don't need a no cd crack, Quake 4 runs without the CD. Basicly, stay off the internet if you want to play single player.

you need to edit your 'hosts' file
go to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
open the 'hosts' file with notepad and add these lines
127.0.0.1 q4master.idsoftware.com
127.0.0.1 idnet.va-corp.com
save file game will not check the web now F
