Dark_Ride Fundraiser - Contest over, Fundraiser still going!

Some staff at techPowerUp have come up with an idea. A friend of ours, also a staff member here on techPowerUp! - Dark_Ride - is in some financial problems.

Dark_Ride lives with just his mother in Bosnia, who makes roughly $210 USD a month. He and his mother are in 1500KM worth of debt that they have been trying to pay off, which converts to $981 USD. He just recently got his dialup back, and lives in a two room house that they built. His parents just got divorced two months ago, and his father is working illegally in france. He has dreamed for a long time about getting out of Bosnia, and even tried moving illegally to germany with his mother when he was younger, but after a few months he was sent back to Bosnia.

Our Goal

Urlyin, Wazzledoozle, and I, all have pitched in to buy an Intel E6300 (seen here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115005)) that will be raffled off. All proceeds will go to Dark_Ride to help pay off his debt, pay for the charges to apply for visas, and travel fees that will help him get out of the country. We are aiming for $1337.

Rules and Guidelines


For each $5 a person donates, they recieve one raffle ticket.

You can buy as many raffle tickets as you wish.

You can donate through paypal (dan@techpowerup.com) or send a personal check, which I will forward to Dark_Ride, or even send Dark_Ride a personal check yourself. PM for adresses. Also, In notes on paypal, make sure to include your forum name so I know who made the donation. If you dont do this you won't get tickets.

If you are paying through paypal with a credit card, send it to dan@danthebanjoman.nl instead.

Staff cannot buy tickets (sorry!). Donations are still welcome. :)


Keep in mind, this is not just a raffle. The raffle is merely a bonus. This is a fundraiser, and you may donate as much or as little as you wish, EVERY PENNY HELPS.

When POGE came up with the idea, I was thinking:"ok, maybe we'll get a few bucks together". But this is far more than I would have ever expected.
I mean look at it, we have collected over $500 within only a few days and 2 more prizes to give away than initialy. This is awesome

Regarding to the currency via Paypal you can choose between several of them when sending money, and one of them it is USD. I do live in Spain and I sent USD without any problems. Paypal does the currency exchange automatically. Anyway, to have an idea about exchange rates this is a good site to be up-to-date

It's been a long time since I visited the forums (been very busy at work lately :(), and after reading all the troubles Dark_Ride is facing I really want to help but unfortunately I can't, I cannot use Paypal from my country.

Dark_Ride, in a way I personally now how frustrating it can be to look for a brighter future in another country, I've been trying to do that myself by taking many tests to get my dental license in the US in a process that has lasted more than four years, and two weeks ago, I was told that I finally passed the last required test, so now I can apply for an H1B working visa for next year! I know this may sound cliched, but in my personal experience, all I can say to you is to keep trying and never let your hope die buddy! You may find many obstacles in your way but there's always a way to solve them, never give up! :D

Guys is there other way to donate than using Paypal? They don't accept credit cards from my country (even though we use U.S. dollars as currency here :rolleyes: ) so it's impossible for me to make a donation...

Have you guys thought of another payment method besides Paypal or personal checks? I don't have a checking account either, but I can use any of my Visa credit cards to help you :)

If you can figure another way of paying with international credit cards, I'll be more than glad to make a donation, keep it up Dark_Ride! :toast:
