RESOLUTION
Use one of the following methods to restore a missing or corrupted file:


If the Windows Operating System is installed on a FAT partition, copy the initialization file to the %SystemRoot%\System32 directory.If Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0 is installed on an NTFS partition, reinstall Windows NT to a separate directory. Log on as the same user with the same permissions and copy the initialization file to the %SystemRoot%\System32 directory. If Windows 2000 is installed on an NTFS partition use the Recovery Console to replace system files. For instructions on relacing system files using the recovery console see:

dude duh! let me put it this way
the site i linked were for you to read NOT take as verbatim!/////in short you have one or both of these problems[hard/software] IF your XP disk is 'clean'[read- not scratched-] and you can't get it to format and install windows without getting that error!!!! so you got past the error but you haven't got windows installed[?] because setup can't 'see' the drive? you note that you turned off 'raid 0' in the bios. K..on the same page in the bios there should be an option to configure sata as raid.... is this set to 'yes' or 'no' ;;; or is this where you turned off "raid 0"........lets assume that the 1 hdd that is in the sys is w0rking and the rest of the install parts all function[ no error code] === I know that you want to set the sys up as raid 0 {fastest} so lets proceed from here...K..hook up the 2nd hdd[ let's hope for no error on that drive } reset the bios to 'raid 0'

yes you need the floppy disk to install the raid drivers so that setup can 'see' the drives
when you start the windows disk you will see on the bottom of the screen "IF YOU NEED TO INSTALL THIRD PARTY DRIVERS PRESS F6 KEY NOW" this happens right at the start after pushing F6 thi machine will stop during the install and ask you for the floppy just follow the instructions[leave the floppy in the drive] IF you get THAT far along you can smile
because of the total size of the raid drive[700+ gigs} I would SUGGEST that you create a 30 gig [30000mb] partiton [for the op sys] when you are ask to format the unpartioned space. don't worry about the rest of the space you can work with that once the operating system is installed ..lets get the op sys up and running so you can put the rest of the hardware in the rig to make sure it all works right luck F

nice to see that your still working on it ...."i have boot access and hdd recognition "is this in the desired config of raid 0 ?? and if i read you right the "xp disk" starts the install and you get past the 'f6' option where you install the raid drivers?yes? do you get to the point where you format and partition the drive??____? if so ... will windows install?? or is this where the error happens ....if you get past the format & partition the KABOOM you prob. have a 'BAD' xp disk 'this is not such a bad idea "they suggested I install windows home edition (wich i have) to get the system up and then go over it with xp" what I would do is install your "HOME XP" IF this works then your can 'almost' be sure you have a bad 'PRO' disk [witch you can return to Tiger for exchange] ,,,,based on the statment "but I'm getting desperate" Why not try this ...and lets see if we can get this rig running we will figure this out all it takes is time ..... answer the ??'s with a post before you try the HOME install mybe something else will POP up .... will be on line all night [working with a 'chap' 'down under' man I hate that time zone sh*t] F

so using the 'home' cd to do the install ..failed too!!!... hummmm just read the manual for that MB looks pretty strait forward... so. at this point we are BACK to a hardware problem FOR SURE. [1] lets start with ram...right now you have only 1 stix installed? swap it out for the other stix you have and try the xp install AGAIN [or did you try this already] it's unlikly you got 2 bad stix in the same pak[one or both must be working] if install fails
[2] do you have another CD player you can try [or can you borrow 1 from another rig or a buddy] if so swap out and retry install if install fails again [cry]

[3] lets check the power supply in the Bios go to the page that shows hardware monitor and see if all the voltages read close to what they should be +5v = 5.?? +3v =3.?? +12v +12.??? if PSU is working close to right they should be +/- .25% {ballpark}

[4] other option is to get a IDE[pata] hdd reconfigure the bios for ide[pata] and try to install windows on that drive IF THAT fails to then you might have a BAD MOTHERBOARD and will need to RMA it

Hope you don't have to go that route but sh*t happens. F

maybe if this thread isnt 14 months old....just playin with ya aw...but you may want to check the dates on older threads you are searching.

/shrug, i found this thread the day i posted because i was having the same problem, and changing the optical drive fixed it. i find it hard to believe that there won't be a single person google'ing this same issue who may find this thread like i did. so regardless of the original poster's problem being fixed, other ppl read this stuff. so imo doesn't matter when it was created or last replied to. and i'm sure whoever stumbles across this and finds that it solves their issue as well will agree with me.
