if your system came preloaded with windows xp you actually can burn the I386 folder in your /windows folder (I think). I did this once before....the only thing is it wont self boot by itself you woulud need an aditional bootdisk.

Downloading a copy of your cd wouldn't take long if you have high speed. I don't REALLY see it being illegal since you have a legal key...

Where could I download one a copy and how would I get it to work?

well I dunno if I am allowed to say where because I don't know the forums view on if it would be leagal or not, but if you have a burner it will come in a cd image and you would just burn that and then stick it in. The rest is pretty much self explanitory on screen stuff as long as you have boot up device 1 your cd-rom

If you need a bootdisk, I got my bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com, although mines a modified version of whats on there...they are supposed to be used in the floppy drive but I got it on cd bootable.

you can get them there or make floppy images here

eh I would just dl the cd really...

I'm confused, could I reinstall windows and reformat my HD with a bootdisk?

oh lol im sorry. If you have your I386 folder inside your windows folder you could burn that folder to a CD but it wouldn't boot. If you have the folder (go check!) then you COULD burn it and THEN get a bootdisk. You would use the bootdisk to boot the cd you would of burned with the i386 folder in it...

But if your totally confused in all of this then get a cd image of windows xp pro or if you have a friend steal it from him (dont steal the guys key rofl)...and just use your own.

Thank you for the offer but I am currently downloading a torrent of Windows XP Pro w/SP2 iso image.

Once I get the iso how do I burn it to a CD?

I apologize, but also assure you I'm doing nothing wrong, and that I am legit.

But not as legit as MC Hammer, he was too legit to quit.

Well when you buy a windows disk are you buying the cd or are you buying the cd-key? I'm actually having the same problem with my friends computer right now... they have a cd key but then he got a virus and had to reformat. As it turns out though he doesn't have the xp pro disk anymore. (he actually claims dell didn't send him one wiht his laptop which i find kinda sketchy)

My computer was custom built and the guy that built it "lost" the cd, I used a key retrieval program to find out what my key is so I could write it down, and I have downloaded SP2 and other updates, so my version must be valid.

Good you found out how to download what you wanted, you use your cd burning program to burn the iso...its easy just find the option (depends what program your using)

hahah you're not going to believe this....

So I downloaded the iso and now have an xp pro install cd.

Earlier this week I was having trouble with USB flash drives not working, turns out there must've been a short in my case's front USB ports, as they fried my two of my friends flashdrives as well as my own. Well before I restarted the computer to boot up the iso, I unplugged those stupid little jacks that held the USB port.

I restarted my pc (and neglected to edit my bios to boot from a CD) and poof, like magic my pc started up as quick as it used to, before the issues with the usb.

It was those god damned front ports all along..............

Well at least Cobra 427 can use this iso on his desktop pc!

P.S Thanks very much for your help guys, joining this forum was one of the best things I've ever done!

Yeh I guess that wasn't the solution, apparently, just having the iso in my cd drive was helping it along, so I went and reformatted and reinstalled xp!

Worked like a charm!

and I still cant turn on my computer. it tells me to insert the XP installation disk, so i put in the disk comrad3 gave me, and nothin happens...same ol'e shit. i'm about to give up on it, give it to someone else as their problem. I have a lil 3gb hdd layin around, i could put the OS on it and rely on my 250gb hdd for space. lol just a thought

Freqhog

I defently would not do that, the 3gb drive is probably not as fast as your 250...

Cobra427

u sure? if so i'll just use the damn 250gb as my master...assuming a miracle doesn't happen and the 80 gets fixed. lol

C0mrad3

You could set up the 250GB as the master and the 80GB as the slave, then just delete everything on the 80GB and use that for file storage.
