Sony announced today that the Playstation 3 will not be sold in Europe this year. The new launch window will be March 2007. The US and Japan are still on track for a release later this year. Sony will have 400.000 Playstation 3 ready for the US market and 100.000 units for the japanese market.

What a shame I'll have to wait an extra four months for something that has been so delayed it no longer seems nearly as incredible. Definately not buying one I've decided, perhaps a Wii because that's the only one with a good price.

Well I was going to hold out until the ps3 came out before buying an xbox 360; compare them etc, but now it seems that by the time I get it my fellow 360ers will have technology that is 18 months old, given I don't let my computer get that old the question has to be asked what is it that sony are actually selling? a next gen console or the promise of one - don't get me wrong, 12 months ago it sounded too good to be true... when I actually get one I will already have DX10, vista, a game or two (crysis) that use next gen graphics with a slew on the way.... sony have lost the plot - by the time europe/aust get the ps3 it will be CURRENT not next gen tech at best.

Could someone explain to me WHY it takes so long to get to europe and australia, i kinda understand why it might take so long to get to australia as it is in the british empire (or summat like that, our queen is there queen and such) but how come when australia is fairly close to japan does it take sooooo long to get there and why does europe get it 4 MONTHS!! after everyone else?

Probably because the australian market is not nearly as important as the US/Jap market. Europe is the second most important market and the rest of the world shares the 3rd rank I guess :\

well austrailia uses PAL rather than NTSC like we do here in the UK so that may also explain why its banded with europe

Simple. BlueRay is expensive...the Diodes are in short supply and the European market simply does not have a market for BlueRay and HD yet. The US and Japan do. So Sony is serving those two markets first...then the rest of the world.
