The word in Taiwan is that the highly anticipated ATI RD600 Conroe chipset is only going to be provided by one motherboard manufacturer, DFI. According to sources, Intel has been putting pressure on Taiwan motherboard companies not to produce RD600 based motherboards. DFI stood up to the Intel giant and mentioned to us that they’ll be the only company providing an RD600 board, the DFI Lanparty RD600. This seems like a real disappointment for ATI as RD600 was set to be a bigger seller for the Canadian company with FSB speeds set to reach 480MHz and above – much higher than 975X and the C19 nForce 590 SLI Intel Edition chipset. DFI’s Lanparty RD600 motherboard will be on shop shelves sometimes next month but we’re not sure on an exact date yet.

 Was planning to build the next rig with ASUS or DFI any way ;) now I guess that has been decided for me:ohwell: have to wait and see the board specs now...;)

yea but wont this suggest that DFI can make it more expensive as it is unique?

Maybe a bit of a noob question but will it be sli or crossfire?:)

crossfire as ATI created the chip (correct?)

LOL, of course its crossfire.

Intel is getting really serious about competition, pressuring mobo manufacturers not to use ATI...

I don't expect the DFI RD600 to sell for a reasonable price like it says: "they’ll be the only company providing an RD600 board, the DFI Lanparty RD600"

monopoly, ms style

well it will be the single fastest mobo on the market. it is and always has been aimed at the extreamist overclocker.

And reading "DFI Cancels The Highly Anticipated LANParty UT nF590 SLI Intel Edition" is an interesting twist.

well it looks like DFI could soon find themselves on the Naughty list of intel, it wouldnt surprise me if they found themselfs on the end of an intel embargo sometime in the future

Intel is dumb pressuring anti rd600. This is the chipset that will most likely save conroe's ass against K8L...

You're right about the price thing..

However, they may give them a good price because 1.) ati uses a very small chipset die compared to Nvidia and 2.) Its the only maker of it... and if it sells well...

well.. the dollar doesn't lie... and Asus/MSI/etc will most definatly want to make some $$! :pimp:

you are missing the point, why are intel going to want a RIVAL to make the fastest chipset for its processors? forget the fact that the consumers will benifit from the performance for intel and its partners it makes perfect buisiness sence to block them. Nodoubt intel has some sought of retribution for DFI's defiance

Long live AMD K8L, which isn't even "born" yet. I hope it'll be better than Core 2 Duo, since IMO it's easier to upgrade w/ and AMD system. But I'll still have to get a new board and memory and CPU no matter what.

Not much intel can do, really...

Its in intels performance interests for the enthusiast community...

For intels target enthusiast market they NEEEEEED this chipset.

Other than that, it doesn't matter to intel. They don't want it at all.

However, the enthusiast is a decent segment of the market that is very fragile when it comes to this kind of situation ;)

Personally I think its shooting them in the foot, having see how overclockable this chipset already is... smoking intel's chipsets. Plus Crossfire support.

I love how everyone is obsessing over K8L, even though there arent any ES's out... Same with conroes.. There were ES's out, but they performed sooo differently from the actual retail batch.

I think you should just wait, and then decide when actual retail benches and real world performance is shown.

the ES E6600's OC'd to 4GHz on air cooling, and the ones that are retail (B2 Stepping) max out at about 3.35GHz on air...

They did it to overhype them for that very reason. what, you actually expect a cpu to really be that good?

You don't need benchies when you consider what amd has changed in the K8L.

It has an extra floating point unit, double the L1 cache...

and too numerous others ;)

There's no doubt AMD has competition in the pipeline. :toast:
