Wiz, mine downclocks with any file I watch on windows mediaplayer, and it happens just as soon as the clip begins to play.
The only game that it down clocks for me is in "Bloodrayne2", but my system plays this game smooth even at the downclock setting, so it's not a big deal
When your talking about downclock, you mean at 2D speeds? Also when a game loads, it requires a certain number of FPS or usage to be required before the card goes into 3d MODE that is mayb why you are getting this. Its not a problem at all. :toast:

Wizzard say for example ive done all profiles , set clocks and delt with the 3d exception situation... this is what happens AFTER cats 6.3 before that it works fine..
Loading
Wizardry 8 - Mem clocks go up , core clocks stay in 2d mode - volts drop to the original 3d clocks
Battlefield 2 - Core and mem clocks reset back to 2d mode volts stay the same
3DMARK2k3-6 - Core and mem clocks work , but on the next test the core volts drop under 1.40
Movies - Screen flicks green clocks reset back to 2d mode.
=
Only way to stop this is by using the overclocker on driverheaven which is using overdrive, but voltages keep dropping back to default when a game loads!
Hmm this is weird, have you tried disabling the Ati hot key puller? i doubt it would help, but just something that came to mind lol.

I have done mine with a clean install and it is the same problem that I have been having since cat 6.4. If I use 6.3 there is no problem.

aah and one thing i noticed is an error with the temperature max display.
It shows something like "1.$" instead of a temperature !
Average and min are ok
Just happens from time to time

Infact here It happens with every video I play, this is with WMP10 and the Ace Mega Codecs pack set at the "Player mode".
Happened before the pack was installed too.

I have a new window Xp corporate sp2 installation with only wmp9 and no additional filters/software installed (just nforce4 drivers, nod32, cat 6.9) and works this way:
Atitool configured to load 3dclocks (overdrive) at startup, then disable ati services and load a 350/350-1V profile:
- First Video: Ok (no freq changes)
- Manual load of a 700/800-1.42V Profile
- Start of a 3d screensaver (windows 3dtext)
- Frequencies go down to 621/560-1.4V (seen in rivatuner graphs - Default 3DClocks apart from mem)
- Stop of screensaver
- Frequencies go down to 594/519-1.3V (Default 2Dclocks apart from mem)
- Manual (re)load of the 700/800-1.42V Profile
- Replay of the same video: Frequencies go down to 594/519-1.3V
- Manual load of the 350/350 Profile
- Replay of the same video: Frequencies go down to 339/297-1.3V
So first time I play a video frequencies switch do not occur; a 3d application (for 3dmark05 is the same) causes frequencies change after which every play of a video (=overlay utilization) causes a frequency change dependant on actual frequencies.
I say OVERLAY because if I tell WMP not to use overlay switches do not happen!
My config: Sapphire x1800xt 256Mb - MSI Neo4 Nforce4Ultra - AMD3800X2@2500Mhz

I've tried to disable overlay with ATT but it seems like there's no change. If I disable DirectDraw instead frequencies don't change ... but the video is black (only audio is heard).

:shadedshu No, below 2D speed. 475/ 693 to be exact. Not a problem as long as it only happens in a game like Bloodrayne 2  , but Oblivion would be a different story  if it were to downclock then, but it don't thank god :rockout:

Yes, clocks are changed when initializing Overlay and VMR7/9. I think that ATi T200 Unified stream driver cause all the problems and all the switches even when the ati2evxx.exe is disabled.

ATi T200 Unified stream is that installed with WDM drivers? Isn't it? On the WXP installation where I made tests i've not installed WDM drivers, just the catalyst base, not even ccc nor wdm.

AGAIN. using ANY ati written software means:
big clock steps
relaxed timings
very bad control over crossfire clocks
etc
if you can live with that, why not just use winclk or overclocker?

I had ATI services disabled because with them enabled I had a lot of crashes.
Tonight I will do the tests with pre 4 but it is not perfectly clear the procedure.
Please confirm if I have correctly understood your instructions:
-install AT pre4
-launch AT
-configure AT to not affect ati services and to start 3D clocks on AT start
-reboot
- test (without launching AT) if clocks are changing with a video stream
- launch AT (it would switch to 3D clock)
- close AT
- check if any clock change is gone when you start video stream
- check if any clock change is gone launching a 3D game and closing it

Thanks W1zzard, this version improves memory overclocking from previous limit of 1143, now I'm able to set 1152 :)
I'm always running with ATI-services off (eg 2d-mode) when overclocking, easiest imo.
edit: After reboot I got artifacts when running 3d mode with 1152, and score gets very low.

So after restart when i start ati tool and have set everything like you said i should get 3D clocks? thats 650/750 .. or dont remember 1900XTX clocks, for sure i still see only 2D clocks, and overdrive in CCC dont work, which probably should be like this?
And if i set 3D clocks manually and raise voltage, screen get distorted and hardlock

Sorry, my suggestion with OverClocker was just to tell that clocking via overdrive solves freq switching problems, as RayAdams has also come to (don't know if on its own ... read some poisoned 3ds).
Do your pre4 uses overdrive too? I imagine yes, if you tell to leave ati services on.
I've just installed it: after some crashes (one sistem halt and a black screen) it seems to work with no more freq switches.

Wizz, another question: I've beeen using beta14 since some days ago and often when loading 2d 350/350-1V profile at windows startup (atitool loaded via registry and autolauch of 2d profile) i got a black screen and must hardreset the pc. I noticed that if I waited some more seconds in "windows start screen" so to let the card heat up a bit before atitool startup, the problem occurred almost never. If the problem is just that would be useful a 10-20seconds delay before applying the atitool startup profile.

Just download this (http://rapidshare.de/files/35021655/executor.rar.html).
You can extract it to AtiTool dir. The important think is that now you do NOT start the AtiTool via registry or via program files/startup, but you must create link to the executor which waits for the time you specified and then starts AT.
My target looks like this, direct copy/paste of target:
"C:\Program Files\ATITool\executor.exe" 110 ATITool.exe *-s
If you use the same dirs then you can add link with this target to the startup in your Start->Program Files->Startup
Where:
- "C:\Program Files\ATITool\executor.exe" is path to executor.
- 110 is time to wait, 110 = 11 seconds or 10 = 1 second, you can set the time you want
- ATITool.exe *-s is program to start and it's parameters, in this case it's set to start ATiTool with -s parametr, means startup only

Another issue with pre4.
I set 2 profiles in AT: 3D and 2D.
When I launch 3dMark06 it switches correctly to my 3D frequencies set in AT.
Between every tests I see a switch to 2D frequencies and this is normal.
At second switch to 3D and further, the 3D frequencies are no more the ones set by AT but are the 3D BIOS default.
I think it is the same problem described by BlueKnight some messages above.
Bye,
Hi, I am also using AT but b14, haven't tried those prebeta stuff. Anyway, I have x1900xt, and the only problem I have with b14 is Fear because screen just get black but u can here the background sound. I will try avi-mpg-xvid "problem", but I dont know why u people do such a big deal with the 3D-Detection? I mean, there is an option "Exceptions" or something, and u can manually add programs that need to have 3D profile loaded. And it works perfectly. Maybe little add-on w1zz; u could add an option like "add all .exe files from a certain dir&subdirs". So if u have games installed in a "Games" dir, that would be really simple to add them. No need of "Automatic 3D detection" option IMO. Anyway, great utility!:respect:

Strange Xcode (is Ati video ecoder's name that?) could cause such a behaviour. Most probably ati Avivo package, that I still has not understood what it is.
I remenber you that has been demonstrated that Ati encoding tool do not use any Gpu for encoding, in fact there is an hacked version that will run on any GPU (i used it with my old 6800le).

OK one question here. I have prebeta4. What is the difference on x1000 tab between "if card has 2D/3D clocks, switch to 3D, and then on exit switch back to 2D/3D" and "Suspend while AT is running, resume on quit" ? Isn't ati2evxx.exe for those 2D/3D switches? So If u suspend this process, only one mode is available. I cant explain what I am wondering:/ If I have profiles, lets say I load at AT startup 2D. So what do these options do, if I already load a profile with clocks&volts for 2D? Maybe I just dont get it..:banghead:
I think movies still dont work. And Fear also. I did as w1zzard wrote, x1000 oc tab only "if card has 2d/3d.." and "override.." are enable, the process has been set to no affect. When I load a 3D profile created by my own with oc'ed clocks, higher voltages and fan settings, system freezes for about 5s, then unfreezes back and movie does not start. Then I clicked movie again, and it has worked. But thats not good. Also Fear; I started the game with that 3D profile, game freezed for 5s, then back to windows with an error like "unable to initialize the renderer to a valid video mode". But clocks are not changing while playing a movie:)

There are two ways of overclocking R5xx boards:
1)Low level: ati services (ati2evxx.exe) disabled, the better one, allows little clock steps, ram timings get nor reaxed, as i know the only way of okking crossfire. Though the best performing okking way, since cat 6.4 there's something in ati drivers that takes control of gpu clocks and changes frequencies back to default (sometimes not) values, for example when loading videos.
2)HighLevel: throug ati overdrive with ati services enabled. Ati drivers has 2d and 3d mode. As i understood this pre4 forces ati drivers to stay in 3dmode (if card has 2D/3D clocks, switch to 3D) and changes the 3dmode frequency (the same you can change, with some limits, in ccc). This mode offers the best "compatibility" with a litte loss in performances due to relaxed memory timings. To use this mode you have to be sure ati services are properly running: not only ati2evxx.exe running, but also no program suspending them (Atitool or ATT with specific options)

Thx i will change it, its my first card with VOltage control. ANd now i run some test with 1,425V on evry Prof.
No isn'T it, same crashes. Igot 1,425V on evry profile, but it' crashes at the 4 loding of one Profil.
Ok thanx for explanation Mietzsche. So with overdrive is like using ATT or RT, or just the original CCC, but without other useful options. I will stay on disabling ati2evxx.

Installed pre4 and configured as you told. It doesn't crash.. always. Can't figure out when but usually when I switch clocks at "the wrong time".
However there is one big problem. When Pre 4 is runing I constantly see the hour glass mouse cursor blink. Normal pointer - pointer with hour glass - normal pointer etc. in 1 second intervals. I wonder what causes that. As soon as I exit Atitool the problem is gone.

Probably there is some codec or program that give problems....whit these new install i have not use X1000 Video Convert For GPU.
NOW WE SHOULD FIND WHAT PROGRAM IS PROBLEM :)
TODAY THE PROBLEM RETURN WHIT VIDEO, YESTERDAY NIGHT I AM SURE I HAVEN'T.
Today i install only two things... Daemon Tools, Java RE and Broken Sword IV, RMClock and a old Intel Webcam..
The people that have problem have Daemon or Java RE, or a webcam?

W1zzard,
I have tried beta16pre4. I think the gpu and memory clock step is better than beta16pre1. But, when I switching between normal and overclocking profile, it give me memory clock half of the stock/normal memory clock. And sometimes the gpu clock also behave the same. Result is pink vertical lines and I need to press reset button on my pc.
It happen too when I increase memory clock slowly (~1MHz), suddenly it is half the stock memory clock. Tried several times, still stay at half the stock memory clock and pink vertical lines happen. Press reset button again to solve it.

The pre-4 has crashed on me once when switching clocks. But I noticed something unpleasant in Silent Hunter III. I was seeing graphical artifacts. This was puzzling since I had not overclocked the card at this point. It ran at 621/721. Little vector glitches came out of nowhere and disappeared. They went away as soon as I exited pre-4 and relaunched the game. Strange.

Artifacts also shown when you run ATITool's "find artifact" on overclocking GPU clock (say 573.75MHz) when running beta16pre4, while the beta16pre1 doesn't give artifacts at that GPU clock.

Wizzard, I see that you have tons and tons of replies to answer so I will just make this short and leave it to you to act on.
I have owned all the top cards that ATI released since some time back (X850XT, X1800XT, X1900 XTX and now X1950XTX)
So I'm pretty used to dealing with ATI as well as all of us in here are.
I'm also working as a reseller for hardware and as an engineer/OEM builder.
I think I can help out here with this "switch to 2d clock when movie is played" thing.
I know very little about programming and "inner circles of hardware" but if you tell me to test anything I can do that. I have free access to major ATI card supply from work and I'm an experienced PC owner. I overclock everything I can com eover and I just can't stand the thing ATI introduced after Cat 6.3 with the videoproblem. I have had the same problem since cat 6.4 ans all the ATI Tool I have tested from .24 and all the way up.
I can tell you EXACTLY what I install in windows and I have the ability to recover a clean fresh windows in matter of minutes (with Ghost). I'm your resource to solve this because it's bugging me to death !!!!! *smile*
If you feel that I can help test stuff for you, contact me here or through mail (klimpen ||at|| semperfi.se)
I just can't live with this anymore *grin*

Find max core or mem about 2 seconds --> machine crash.
Go to CCC to check settings, then click ok-->machine crash.
Change profile to 650/775mhz and Atitool shows 650/300 and 650/600, third try and then 650/775mhz.
One time machine crash when i change my profile where is different clocks, fan-settings and volts.
I got black, green or blue-screen when machine crashes.
Bad to say, but damn hard to use Atitool because of these problems.
My earlier cards (9700np@pro & x800pro-vivo@xt-pe+) were not any problems.

I can switch to 2D without a problem
I can let ATITool set set 3D Clock according to the checkmark under "X1000 Overclocking" at the startup.
I can NOT switch to 3D by manual or by setting that profile as a startup profile.
I can set the CORE to 650Mhz (Same as 3DClock in CCC and card default) but
I CAN NOT under any circumstanses set the MEM to 999MHz (Same as 3DClock in CCC and card default)
If i save a profile with 3D voltages (1425, 2083, 2080, 1379) and the lower clockspeeds I can set that profile.
So there seem to be ONE thing only that makes the machine crash and that is to switch to HIGHER clocks on the MEM.
I can for example create a profile with 3D Core clock and 3D voltage but with 2D Mem clock and all works fine.
I can plain and simple startup a default ATI Tool and set everything BUT the mem speed.
The crash itself is either a black screen with PC still running and a restart as a result
OR
A major corrupted screen with mousepointer and ATI Tool in the background, a few seconds later the PC freeze up and I have to wait half a second for the VPU recover to kick in and everything is fine.
I will test some more now but I need to post this in case of a hard crash.

If you have ati services disabled (by atitool or elseway) probably memory timings are not correctly switched and can't reach such frequencies.
That 3d profile you load at startup is not the 3dprof you created, but the 3d profile controlled by ati drivers, with correct memory timings. Try set the "not affected" option in "X1000 Overclocking" along with the load of 3dclock at atitoolstartup and check you're not disabling ati services via msconfig, ATT or any other Oc soft.

OK Mietzsche, I tested to set it to Not Affected in X1000 overclocking and also the Load 3D at startup, I then stoped ATI tool and started it again. The result is a blue-ish screen and a VPU recover action. I stop ATI Tool once more after the VPU recovery and startup again and NOTHING happens. The program starts up but no clocks are changed and no 3D is loaded. Very strange. I will do a reboot of the PC and test this once more. I'm getting confused here.
OK, I'm back
I will try to type this in an easy to understand step by step manner because I myself is confused over the results.
1. The settings are as per the attachments.
2. Reboot of PC
3. Touch NOTING untill Windows is done with all boot and then wait another minute.
4. Doubleclick in ATI Tool icon on desktop and ATI Tool loads with default 3D settings for my card (650/999MHz) and everything is just fine.
I see this because I see the clocks and the temps always rise when in 3D mode.
5. Making of the two screens you see as attachment without touching any settings.
6. Close ATI Tool and wait one minute.
7. Doubleclick in ATI Tool icon on desktop and ATI Tool loads with a dark blue screen that goes to black in a fraction of a second. No way back. No VPU recover or CTRL + ALT + DEL. I could reach the machine through Remote Desktop but everything is fu***d up.
No drivers loaded??? and NO CCC can start and ATI Tool is dead.
8. Restart from within Remote Destop (works fine and machine reboots).
9. Start reading from point 3 above. Same thing again!

I have a simple way of generating the problem. As I said in a previous post I have had this since Cat 6.4 was released and have NEVER EVER got rid of it since.
1. Start Windows and wait one minute after Windows seem loaded OK.
2. Start ATI Tool Beta15 (Have none of the problem mentioned in above post).
3. Load the manually made 3D config (shown in attachment 00044, the right one) with proper voltage.
4. Start up the DEMO of Battlefield 2142 that has some intro video.
5. Quickly ALT + TAB to desktop before the video intro is done and look att ATI Tool that is still running on desktop.
6. Verifying that clocks has dropped back to default 2D (shown in attachment 00043, the left one)
The solution I have been using all these month playing clan matches on a league of BF2 is to have two configs (one 2D and one slightly OC'ed 3D) binded to hotkeys.
I then start up BF2 without any concern to the clockspeeds since they will drop anyway. Then wait for the intro move to finnish and load the game and join a server and THEN push my hotkey for my 3D profile. One might think you could just delete the intros from BF2!? Yes I have done that since it speeds up the loading a lot but the downclock still appear since BF2 starts the intro-video-built-in-player and the looks for a videofile that is missing, so it kinda plays a 'blank' for half a second.
When I'm done playing I hope I remember to push the hotkey for 2D before going to bed. Otherwise the card is overclocked and overvolted all night generating a lot of heat and eating up power.
And ofcource, If we all stop using ATI Tool and revert back to CCC everything works fine. But honestly! Who the f**k want's to use the CCC to overclock
I also have a G15 and LCD Studio show me all kinds of info from ATI Tool in the display.
Mommy, I want the autoswitching back!
And this one is for you W1zzard, that has to go through all this nonsence ---> :respect:

Let's speak english! Never tried nothing with Atitool closes, but as i understood with the last pre4 okking with overdrive it's impossible to have the proper work with atitool closed (at least if you underclock).
It seems really strange that if you don't start AT at all you get clock switches at playing videos (At not started=normal CAT).
If you close atitool it's normal you have switched because IMHO ati services, when in 2dmode check actual clock and then drop to a "relax" value for playing video, that can be default 2d in you have actual 3dfrequ or lower (eg. 450) if you have lower freq at atitool exit. Instead Atitool forces services to remain in 3dmode while changeing the 3dmode freq to you desired.

Why b15? The only one that deals with the video problem is b16pre4 properly configured.

The only one that deals with the video problem is b16pre4 properly configured.
Does the B16pre4 automaticly upclock when I load a game and not downclock when the game loads a video section?
Does the B16pre4 downclock when I have finished playing a game?
Does the B16pre4 allow me to downclock when I want, and then upclock again?
As far as I have tested the B16pre4 just upclock to 3D settings when loaded and the there is not much I'm allowed to to other then clock it more upwards.
I have ONE chance only to downclock by chosing a config or "set clock" but then I can NEVER EVER get back to 3D clocks unless I reboot the machine.
B16pre4 will set 3D clock when started and NEVER again. So if you change that 3D clock to ANY lower clock by any means (config, "set clock" or videoplay-downclock) you will never be able to play a game again (with right 3D clock) unless you reboot first.
W1zzard, if you read this you CAN NOT take this as criticism towards you or your application since I am very much aware of that this is a PRE RELEASE of a BETA VERSION.
I wouldn't demand anything from you. You have done enough for a whole computer age as fas as I'm concerned.
I'm in here to help YOU to make this great tool even more great!
The main reason why I use this tool is to overclock (duh?) and to monitor speeds and temps.
Here is my little home made display on my Logitech G15.

I remember you the pre4 has profiles as well and Startup section too and even 3ddetection!
I get "default 3d" clocks at atitool start, then it immediately applies 2d (350/350-1V) Profile and through 3d detection switches between 2d ad 3d (700/800-1.42V) over games.
P.s. I see in atitool i'm using beta16 (c) is pre4, isn't it?

My first post so lets try.
I just bought a new Sapphire 1900gt 256mb the new cooler on it. I was trying to overclock it with atitool.
Everything works in prebeta3 very well reached 570/840 (from 513/657) stock voltage no crashes no problems what so ever with atitool ,but I am a bit confused :banghead: :
1. I can't adjust voltages, I don't even have the option in the setting to adjust it/can someone tell me why and how to enable it/.
2. I was thinikig that there is 2d /3d mode change, but my card doesnt change clocks, it just runs on 513/657 al the time 2d and 3d. /rivatunner monitoring and atitool/ with no mods just clean install of winXP :twitch: .
3. A bit offtopic - saved bios with atiwinflash, opened in rabit 2.1 to check what core i have /for possible unlocking to XT/ but raBit writes
version/PN: 113-B04202-101
Description: B04201 BIOS
Device ID 724B - Radeon X1900 series (Unknown)
SubSystem ID:0B12
SubVendor ID:1002
So i have no idea what core it is xl, pro or le  .
Bios is attached.
And I have to say very good job W1zzard on atitool it is a nice piece of software for overclocking, thanks for the efffort :respect: .
I have the same bios on mine?
What have you found out??
Can we unlock/oc the nuts off them or what? :)

I am currently using ATITool 0.25 Beta 16pre3 and I have noticed a problem. I also noticed this problem while I was using ATITool 0.25 Beta 10.
Everytime I run a "Memory/Processes" scan with "ewido 4.0.0.172 trial", when it hits both "ATITool.exe" and another thing called "VM_008D0000" my computer completely locks up. I can't do anything. I have to shutdown or restart.
This is rather inconvienient as I regularily run scans on my computer. This is a re-occuring problem that I can easily duplicate (on my own system).
Other than this problem, I love ATITool. If there is something I can do, please inform me.

Yes I understand that this is what ATI Tool is "SUPPOSED" to do but it ain't working.
Maybe it does on your computer with your setup but not on my system.
You have to read all my long posts again so you understand what I'm talking about.
I don't complain about ATI Tool, I'm just trying to help w1zzard solve the problems that might occur.
I have those problems and I would like to get rid of them.
I you don't believe me you could just tell me what to do step by step and i will show you it does not work.

Sorry, but I've seen so many people on forum with atitool not working, even when Ati drivers were overclock friendly: they just can't figure out how to configure AT, that is really not simple (profiles, voltages, frequencies ...)
Your config?
I was telling you to use pre4 because I think that version is on the right way, while previous version gave huge problems to me too.

OK, Mietzsche. We seem to have a communication problem here.
Everything you make an answer to regarding me is in my previous posts.
I DO have problems and my post should clarify that I am an experienced (Spelling?) user that know my way around and inside ATI Tool.
My post should ALSO state that I'm using ATI Tool 0.25 Beta16 Pre4 according to my screendumps and text.
And if anyone post about a problem like mine, do you by default assume they are n00b's and don't understand one bit of it?
Because that is what you are saying by typing this:

I'm thankful to you for trying to help but you have to "see" the problem ppl are having before jumping conclusions.

Ok, sorry again: often reading everything takes too much time and even if you read a post you'll forget it after another 50 posts!
I heard something about x1950 problems on ATT forum and remember CAT 6.10beta could help, but i'm not sure. x1950 has ddr4 and really donn't know about timings of ddr4. I still have not comprehended how Atitool changes timings: with my 1800xt timings are tighter at 800mhz than 350mhz, but i can see with rivatuner, you not as it seems.
Try 6.10 or the last ATT that is working via overdrive but now has memory voltage control too (don't know if all voltages required by 1950).
Wizzard is not posting: good sign, probably is working! A big thank Wiz!

Video problem is almost surely related to services deacrivation. Check x1000 section config. For the crashes I couldn't solve too, so i'm actually trying ATT althoug it relaxes timing on memory overclocking: i can reach 845Mhz instead of Atitool's 790 but i loose 5-10% in 3dmark. In SC ChaosTheory, instead, i get 2 more fps (59 form 57)

mmm, right setting. Sure all 2 processes are running? Any other apps which could stop them (eg. ATT)?
What do you do at atitool start? If you don't load any profile it should stay at 3ddefaultclocks and not switch on videos. I mean: sometimes when I load a profile I get black screen for 2-3 sec, then vpu recover reset default 2dclocks and the screen come back; There on I have video switches.

Great. 2d/3d switch works and no more udesidered freq switching. Hope it will be stable.
WIZZ, THANK YOU A LOT FOR YOU HARD WORK AND PATIENCE!

x1000 : disbale memory timings auto tuning - not checked
if card has 2d/3d clocks - not checked
override BOIS - greyed out
ATI clock switching - not affected

Well, I tried my best with Beta 14 and something always snagged me. Green vertical lines, Voltage not reverting when loading 2D profile, or just plain freezing. I disabled the hotkey poller and even tried fresh installs of Cat 6.8 and 6.9. Something always fubar.
I'll give this one a go. So no need to disable hotkey poller or create profiles this time around?
EDIT:
Same thing with this one. Installed, left the new options to default (disable when ati tool is running, etc), ran 3D2K1 and noticed game 1 was averaging 400. It's normally 600, so I go back to find out the clocks and voltage have reverted to 2D modes via ATI Tool. Load default profile (3d speeds/volts) and the mouse moves, but nothing clicks. Frozen.
Maybe it's just 3D2K1, but I've wasted over 3 hours with this thing and am just about ready to quit. Any ideas?
EDIT2:
3D2K6 loads, notice first scene hovering around 24, when it's normally 34. Exited to find ATI Tool's got my speeds at 2D again. Not gonna bother loading 3D for another lock...

X1000 panel: I have enabled "If card has 2d/3d clocks, switch to 3d clocks when starting ati tool"
I have selected "Suspend while ATI Tool is running" in ATI automatic clock switching.
Yet when I exit a game the clock defaults back to 500/600. Why?
I have experienced one crash of ATI tool when selecting new speed right after the card reset itself to 2d speeds.
Apart from these two instances the tool has been running well for me. The first version of pre-beta 16 that I haven't been forced to uninstall for beta 15 :) This looks good.

pre 5 comments.
I confirm the test of Fierceleaf: if you disable the memory auto tuning, checking the little square, you do the contrary.
You can change in the program the logic or you can change the label from "disable" to "enable".
In the same window it is still not working what is related to suspend or stop the Ati service.
Apart this, it works without any particular issue but it is still too unstable during the clock and voltage switch.
Thanks for your efforts but I am still obliged to use ATT.

The only combination that works for my x1900xt is this one:
atitool 0.25beta 14
catalyst 6.3
atihotkey poller disabled, ati smart disabled
with every catalyst higher than 6.3 there are problems with videos, clocksettings and freezes
Does the new releasenote solves these problems?
I would like to use a catalyst 6.9 or 6.10beta

Cannot figure out why it does that. I tried telling ati tools to leave the event thingy alone. But it still figures it should fire up cli.exe constantly and shut it down. Wonder what gives. (I need 1.575 /2.25/2.25 1.503V) for OC at 800/9xx) for bench, i have freeze when launch the bench or big artefact... It seems voltage are not applied to 3D ( auto with new Ati Tool)..
Personally .. i use allways the 25.14 and accept the disable services for use 2D clock... and use them + voltage change.. reallly happy of them..
have you solver this....
For other thing: --- i get my X1950CF now.. and will now if you can see the algorythm for the DDR4.. cause i will do some bench, and like soft ( and your work off course) for OC IT properly..
Thanks

I test this pre5...for me there is a great jump forward in stability and options...
but i continue to have the same problems...first when i see a video (divX) whit a frequency different than 2D or 3D default, 610/720 for example, frequency change....in past there war strange frequency like 475/700...now the great think is that they return to default 600/700 and so system doesn't crash...but this problem whit the video that have a "strange profile" different to 2d and 3d CONTINUE for me.
So, if i play a game whit a video, the frequency change to me.....the only solution is to use 3D dection and after a second they return from default to 3d profile...but i have the fear that the change Game Profile-> 2D ATI -> Game Profile in less than a second can give me problems...
I would that we can found a solution for this problems for video...
PS i have found an other problem...but now i don't remember it...i post when i refound it :P

Things are not as rosy as I first expected. For instance ATI T keeps firing up CLI.exe proces and shutting it down. On. Off. On. off. On. Off. Constantly. Very annoying. Cannot figure out why it does that. I tried telling ati tools to leave the event thingy alone. But it still figures it should fire up cli.exe constantly and shut it down. Wonder what gives. Guess Ill be back to beta 15
I see that i have the same problems Wizard...game every 3 second do little block..and when i exit in desktop my mouse continue to have hourglass ..open the task manager...CLI return use 30% of my cpu every 2-3 seconds

Im currently using the pre5 beta 16. (ive used the other 0.25 betas as well) Ive been having an issue with any version of ati tool ive tryed. My problem is my clocks set in my profile sometimes seem to revert to the 500/600 2d mode clocks. My temps dont break 80C on load ( accelero x2)
I have the ati hotkey poller disabled in msconfig. I set automatic clock switching to not effected , disable auto mem tuning is off as well of the switch to 3d clocks at starting. I currently have 1 profile ( 650/750 1.450v , 100% fan, 3d detection off )
I had previously been using 2 separate profiles and 3d detection ( to simulate atis clock and voltage switching ) For whatever reason it didnt want to cooperate.
If anyone sees anything wrong with how ive set this up or has any recommendations, it would be much apprenticed.

What's your GPU Chickenfeed.. cause i have similar problem, but with X1950 and X1900 ( now X1950CF + X1900XTX in CF so i use different tools for OC.. but i have same thing with X1900XTX alone... best for me for the X1900 was the 25.14beta,,

Its a ati x1900xt 512mb 1.1ns ram(xtx stuff although i cant seem to figure out how to set the voltages to get mem working in the 775-800 range). Im using the 6.9 cats. Haven't bothered checking whether older versions help at all. Which program are you using to overclock? The minor oc i had wasnt anything to write home about ( although i could squeeze out more i dont see the point ) I just like ati tools temp monitoring and setting the fan speed @ 100%. If i could get those working alone minus the clock changing issue id be happy. It seems the clocks change to the 2d clocks in games as well ( was playing bf2142 and noticed this ) , which completely sucks. I dont know if the ati drivers throttle if the card overheats? ( although the gpu itself isnt , mabey memory )
The best for me and used by all OCer i know with X1900XT(X and single like Cfire) stay the ATI-Tool 25.14b.. you don't need disable the services, just say yes when you enter ATI-Tool.. ( But some peoples like better do it before, so ATI Hotkey Poller + Smart, disable the services and reboot.. ) then the voltage show ATI tool is not right cause it use 2D voltage... for 3D you need the stock voltage.. Try find on Techpower up the stock voltage, i can't remember, i use allways High voltage under Water for 800/900mhz ( for this speed 1.575/2.25/2.25/1.503), it's clearly only if you have watercooling at minimum.. When you have finish bench... re activate the services and reboot.. don't try reset to default by ATI tool the speed... it will reset Voltage and crash..
One thing: Never open the CCC after load ATI tool...

Thanks lane. That sure explains a lot of the issues I've been having. It seems to me their's really no way to OC past CCC levels for 24/7 operation without mega hassles. Everytime I've attempted it, I've been met with strange lines across the screen or just plain crashing.
For benching, maybe it's ok. But I bought my R580 for games. :D If only there was a way to increase limits in CCC...
Normally you can get more without problem.. is the corruption appears during bench or just after applied the clock..?
But the card need a little work on it for give you back when you OC... i give you some link..
a friend have do this thread for Cfire user on Guru3D: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=181125

Heres a picture showing an example of my issue.
http://img246.imageshack.us/my.php?image=atitoolproblem001chickerd0.jpg
I have the ati services disabled at windows startup. Ati tool starts at launch and loads my 2d profile. I launch serious sam 2 demo. Clocks go from 500/600 2d to 3d 650/775 and stay that way until the closing of the program. I then try the Terroist Takedown demo ( horrible by the way just needed to use any game as an example , this issue occurs with other games as well ; ive yet to find any relation though ( eg might only occur with open gl or direct 3d , unsure at this point ) and the clocks go from 2d to 3d again. The game feels fine but then it stutters a fair bit and i feel a noticeable slowdown (again this happens with other games so its not a specific game issue ) I close the program. However it goes from 400/600 to 2d 500/600. This makes absolutely no sense. I cant be sure wether this issue occurs with the ati processes is running and with the abscence of ati tool. ( id much rather use ati tool as overdrive and the ccc blow due to the fact i need to run 5 processes and use 30-50mb mem where as ati tool uses just 1 and much less memory , as well as the voltage, fan control and temp monitoring which i really like to have.
Ive tryed running a single 3d profile ( with 3d detection disabled ) but when i went to check my clocks after exiting a game id see the same thing yet again. I used 2d , 3d profiles to best show the issue.
I hope this gives a more detailed description of the issue at hand.
thanks for your time

Sorry, but why you disable ATI Services?!?!
Cause there's a conflict with voltage and 2D3D and clock 2D 3d.. for X1800 and newer ..
with 25.14B, ( for disable the 2D/3D clock change) then in real you use the 2D clock / voltage an up them to the level you need for speed you want..
- for 25.14b don't need do this ( but some like better do it), the soft ask you at first launch if you accept the soft stop this service...
For other ( or newer) .. i have got some prob with X1900XTX OC.. voltage don't applied like they should do..
It seems it should be fixed by last rev of ATI tool.. but personally with X1900 i have get only good result with 25.14.

Right after clocking I get corruption. When it doesn't corrupt, I can game, but it'll switch to 2D settings during the game and my framerate goes bye, bye. I've got a 120mm on the thermalright hr-03, so it's good enough for stock volts at least. I just wanna crank the clocks up as much as def v will allow.
the STock voltage with ATI tool 25.14b are the 2D clock... not enough for th 3D clocks..
when you use the services disabled and /or ATI tool let disable them.. the voltage and clock are the 2D clock.. it's why you have corrupt you need up the voltage before apply the speed you want..

Hi all, my very first post here...W1zzard, thank you for AtiTool...
unfortunately this is the my first auto-swtiching card (a 1900XT - 256mb actually) and reading the entire prebeta16 discussion has not been a good idea...too many different "how to"...
I have the 6.9 with CCC installed (going to install 6.10 tomorrow) and nothing disabled (services are still enabled)...
my question is: If I disable the services will I have problems switching manually between profiles ?? will I have problems with the video running at different clocks ??? (I read about problems with ingame videos downclocking the card)
for sure the replies are well available on the thread but after reading all the pages I'm really confused...

1) Uninstall all you ATi drivers and ATi applications + Restart
3) Install 6.10 Final (Restart)
4) Dowload Beta16 Pre5, install it and go for it!
Don't forget to add voltage to your card> settings >VGPU (1.45V) VDDCI (1.48V)
Leave both memmory voltages at default voltage
P.S. Forget about ther services, just leave it as it comes, anyway, it will work again just when you uninstall atitool and restart...

HY!I'm new in this topic. I've got a problem with Atitool 0.25 beta 15. I1ve got an Abit Rx-800 Guru, and the Atitool can't display it's temperatures and fan speed:( But with the card i got a program called Oc Guru, and it can display these things. Could you build this feature in the new Atitool, to read the datas of the sensors. please send me an e-mail, if you could help me! Thanks

1) Your voltages are way to low, so if you are using XT Oced it is probably unstable.
2) Use always same 2D/3D Clock, (and also same voltages)
3) Pre5 don't have sepparate 2D/3D voltages, so u are mading some mistake.
Ther is VGPU an VDDCI (1.35V/1.45 seems nice for those) Your Samsung memmory ratted voltage is 2.1V so don't be scary.
Check de box to disable automatic timing adjustments cause it stincks.

So i donīt understand what you mean..sorry
It works rocksolid with these voltages.
I have tested it some days with different 3d applications.
When these voltages are only fake, why dropped my max. temperature by 20°C?
I donīt overclock the card, i only want to make it cooler and silent.
Why should the pre5 donīt support 2D/3D Voltages? You can set different voltages for every profil.
The box disable memory timings is disabled.
The automatic clock switch box is set to suspend while atitool is running.

Voltages aren't fake!where did you read that ?
You can made profiles and change between them manually, but ther is no auto switch to 2D/3D voltages.
VGPU 1.35V / VDDIC 1.4V leave it like that! and don't bother

What's up all,I've been using ATItool since my good old freshman days of 2002, but I have a new PC and video card (X1300XT). I am running the beta 16 pre5 build, and I was wondering how I can enable the temperature monitoring feature in ATItool. I know that I have an onboard monitoring chip, because I am able to monitor under the Catalyst Contol Center, but this takes a few annoying seconds to load when I'm benchmarking in a game. If this isn't possilbe, does anyone know of a low-resource usage temperature monitoring app similar to SpeedFan (CPU app)? Thanks for the great app Wizzard!

I've read some of this thread. I've got a X1800XT and when I try 16 pre 5 the load 3D with Hotkey poller enabled makes errored image when I start AT. Seems like AT doesn't load correct 3D profile for my card.
I'm not sure why I would want that auto 3D/2D crap anyhow, I much prefer settings 2D and 3D as and when. I think the .avi and .mpeg issues are fixed which is great and it seems to work like Beta 14 i.e. flawlessly when I disable those two services.
I really how hate ATI have done this, they make such great cards and have chosen such a horrible thing like CCC!
No I was wrong!
I can use 16 pre 5 but it's like this. The ATI services must be enabled, as you know when I load AT for the first time it gives errors on the screen. This must be because my card is not being read correctly - whether that's the drivers or AT I don't know. I use 6.9 Powercolor drivers from their web site.
It doesn't matter if the ATI services are disabled or not, AT still seems to try and load D3D clocks. So it errors and a few seconds later it seems to reset the clocks to what looks like ATI 2D 600/700 which has no errors at all. My card doesn't reset if the ATI services are disabled and instead it hangs which needs a forced reboot.
Once it's reset into 2D mode I can work and then load different profiles no problem. So I can work with it like this. One thing I want to know is why were the ATI services involved any how? Is it so that X1950XTX can use AT? And why not load 2D instead of 3D?
Well I would like an option perhaps during the install process to totally remove this ATI services incorprated into AT and loading ATI 3D business. My card works perfectly with Beta 14 except for clocks changing when .avi is played.

Are you guys disabling the AI...I found in some cases that the AI can cause problems like black screen, ctd, etc but it's rare. The only problem with doing that is you can get a decrease in frame rate as that particular game is no longer "optimized".
Hmm some times when I load this version it errors the screen a little, after initial loading of AT some times it resets itself to 2D some times it doesn't. So that's not too great, maybe if I can edit bios and flash my card I can use this version.
I don't know where AT is reading 3D clocks from but obviously they aren't right for my Powercolor X1800XT. Perhaps if you set AT to load 2D clocks instead it m
