View Full Version : ATI's Vista Benchmark
ATI has released a system benchmarking applet that tells you whether or not ATI thinks your computer is Vista ready. When I tried this on my laptop, it told me I needed to buy an X1900 XTX to run Vista.

Gaming on Windows Vista - ATI versus NVIDIA:
(Oddly enough, using the ICD 96.33 VISTA OpenGL shim driver from NVidia worked, & ATI apparently didn't! See the quotes from this article regarding that next)
"If you do want to try out some gaming on Vista RC1 then your best bet is to use an NVIDIA graphics card as it just worked on more games without issues than ATI graphics cards."
&
"After another fresh instal of Vista RC1 we were able to get the 8.29.100.0 drivers up and benchmarking, but was still unable to run OpenGL games like DOOM 3. After giving up on the newer drivers we benchmarked the WDDM drivers that came on Vista. The 7.15.11.0 drivers were found to be pretty stable for us, and like NVIDIA lacked support for multi-GPU support. Without Crossfire support we stuck with a single ATI X1900XTX graphics card for testing."

* Enjoy the read... especially regarding OpenGL gaming on VISTA!
