Now, we all know what the Windows Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is. For those of you who don't know: it's a small piece of software that Microsoft installs on your computer that contacts the Microsoft server and checks for validity. If the test fails you will not be able to download the file(s). The following method gives you the ability to download every file from Microsoft without a WGA check.
You need the tool "mgadiag.exe" and the download url of the file that you want to download. Mgadiag.exe is the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool. Start mgadiag.exe and check the value of the “Download Center Code”, this should be seven chars consisting of upper case letters and numbers. Remember that code and open the website of the file that you want to download.

There is really only one reason the test should fail Darkride. This sounds a lot like warez stuff?

Actually, microsoft also doesn't let you update if you haven't activated your copy of Windows yet. That has been a major pain in the butt in the past, should check if it works with this thingy.

I thought that software only worked with Genuine Windows anyway?

I haven't downloaded Genuine Advantage, I haven't registered. Programs work fine. It doesn't let you get the new IE beta without WGA, but that's fine with me. I guess it all just comes down to apathy.

I've downloaded it because my Windows is genuine so I have less reason to avoid it than most poeple on this site I expect...

AIf someone doesn't want to pay for windows they should stick to Linux. Otherwise, send Bill his money and his software will work fine on your PC. I have never had any issues with the 100+ installs I have done with the same copy of XP on all my upgrades for the last 2 years. Stupid pirates make it all cost more for us.

I didn't say it wasn't legit, just that I don't like WGA. There's no point to it.

Stupid pirates make it all cost more for us.
Greed makes it cost more for all of us. Capitalism: Charge the most people are willing to pay for something.
Pirates, migrants, terrorism, are all scapegoats to charge more for things like Vista, Healthcare and oil. If these things werent here, they would still find reasons to take more money from us. It is just supply and demand. Stop paying the high prices, and demand will fall.
