View Full Version : Ram Timings to blame???

Hi all,
Overclocking is a new thing to me and am not sure how to do it.....Especially in the Ram department..........
My comp was pre-built by me and a friend, he knew most of the overclocking side of things, but now he has gone.
Orginally the system had 2x512gb (geil one) and was of course overclocked and running alot faster, i recently added another 2x512gb of Geil one, and the system keeped crashing and trying to re-boot, take it out and it was fine.
I recently discovered that the first ram was GOW and the added ram was GOS, and that the timings was messing things up.
I then discovered that the only way to get the new ram in was to go into the Bios and turn off CPC to disable the original rams overclock?
I have used the program CPU 1.36 and the ram timings are way out of each other.
Is there a way of changing this so that they are both running at the same timings in the overclocked way???
Could also the timings be messing up my games as they sometimes freeze and boot me out of them :banghead:
I do have all the settings up on maximum, but surely the VGA should cope with this with ease??
Thanks for your time , any help with this is much appreciated:)

Try to change your Ram timings using SYSTool.

can you post a screen shot of CPU 1.36 so we can see what it says
The ram needs to be preferably indentical ..well at least the timmings need to be identical, to be able to run all 4 at once

Thanks for your replies,
I only use SYStool for imformation purposes therefore would'nt have a clue on how to change ram timings with it.
All four stick are Geil one, but the orignal 2 that i put in are GOW DDR400/500 and the ones that i have added are GOS DDR400/600.

They are not compatible to run together , one pair are pc 4800 and the other pc 4000
you need to take back the new stuff you bought and exchage it for the same type as your old.
Which were the newest ones you bought ? pc 4800 ?

Yep, the pc4800 were the new ones that i bought and put in.
I bought those from a friend so no exchange:(
I know ppl use different Ram modules, manufacturers, so i would gather that it is impossible to set the timings in the pc4800, to run at the same timings as the pc4000? So they would both run at DDR500?

Have you tried changing the timmings in bios ?

I would keep the PC 4800, and get another PC 4800. Those are the best DDR modules, being able to run at 300Mhz+ (DDR-600) @ 2.5-4-4-7. It has TCCD Samsung memory, the other pC 400 can go 250Mhz+ (DDR-500) @ 2-2-2-5. I would keep the GeIL One PC 4800, sell the GeIL One PC 4000, and get another set of GeIL One PC 4800.
The GeIL One PC 4800 is Samsung TCCD, and the GeIL One PC 4000 is Winbond UTT BH. Different Memory.

Yeah, the Geil One PC 4800 is the best DDR module out there, and you're really lucky to have it since they're "limited supplied".

Also, make sure the PC 4800 (TCCD) is in the yellow slots, and the PC 4000 (BH-5) is in the orange slots.

Thanks for your input guys :toast:
judas: I would not have a clue about setting the Ram timings in the Bios, i am a complete novice when it comes to the Ram timings, i dont even know what the numbers stand for
Azn: I just checked the Ram, and i will put the pc4800 in the yellow slots, and i think i will pull out and sell the pc4000.
When i first added the pc4800 it kept crashing but was advised to turn of the CPC comand rate to Disabled, so if i only have the pc4800 in do i turn the cpc back on?? And how would i know if it is running at ddr600??
Thanks again.
