View Full Version : Watercooling is hot, and idk why.

Well needless to say, my conroe is suffering of idles @ 48 degrees.. and this is with watercooling. I have no air bubbles in the liquid, and it has a perfect flow, 2 120mm fans ontop of an external radiator.. Dangerden TDX-775.

now. The problem is that it doesnt seem to want to absorb heat easily at all. Not sure why..

I have the 3 following ideas as to why its not, or is incapable of going below like.. 40 degrees.

1. The cpu is faulty and runs hot no matter what.
2. The liquid I use http://xoxide.com/primoice-nonconductive-fluid-uvblue.html is not very good...
3. The radiator not blowing out air that isnt too hot, maybe the radiator? Heck its not even hot to the touch..

I think #2 is the more ideal reason for it crapping out. Im going to put distilled water in it soon, and some antifreeze, it takes me about 28oz of liquid to fill it. Say I have 32oz~ or so like the bottle in the pic of the coolant. How much antifreeze should I add to the distilled? Anything else to add?

Thanks!

Water wetter and water with anti-corrosive anti-freeze.

20% anti-freeze to 80% water.
Then mix the water wetter accordingly.

It works for cooling a few powerplants (Toy car) I have.

hm are you shure you radiator has no air in it?
and which week is your connie?

to post it double^^
:shadedshu

are you sure your radiator is out of air?
and which week is your connie it may be that it looks like this:

in a way it may be your oc ways
my connie is up to 3,2gig stable on stock vcore afterwards it goes up
3,6=1,54
3,8=1,59
4gig=1,63

week 25 should be good refer to XS
but i dont know much about week 25
is your ihs concave?
how is the thermal paste spread out?
which temps you get in your tank?

and yep that one on the pics is my

my tank? reservoir? I dont use one, I use a T line, and it doesnt have a temp monitor on it.

I changed to antifreeze and distilled water, no water wetter, and there was like.. a 5c drop overclocked.., down to 44 idle @ 1.4v.. still high..

my IHS is rather good, ill try lapping it though, cause hell if I have a warranty, its OEM... I have a nice even spread of AS5, lapping wont hurt...

if the ihs was bad the water would be cooler because there would be less heat transfer

now wtf... mbm is telling me 45c, and "Core Temp" is telling me 36/39c for core1/2

who do I believe? should I lap it anyway?

believe Core Temp, that takes the reading from the thermal diode in the die itself. Looks like the temps are good ;)

Double check this with Everest (downloads), and you should find it's the same as the readout from core temp.

well it seems my IHS is flat, so I dont need to lap..

what about that IHS removal you were mentioning? hrmmm..

yeah i mean reservoir
you have no one?
bad thing that t-line in my eyes
but dunno exactly
hm my temps atm on 2,9gig/322 fsb on 1,325volt and rasied northbridge voltage i guess are like
43 idle and 54 under load
tbh i dont believe this temps i can barely touch my cooper heatsink really next to my cpu and its cold at all even after 4 hours prime
if i oc my x1900xt the air coming out my radiator is pretty warm
when my cpu is under load the air is cold
i dont get this and in my eyes the core 2 dua ihs is ridicilous
but i cant use my cpu without one because my cooler isnt able to make a clear contact with the die only

you should dremel it down.. it will make the core touch.. you'd see SUPER benefits.

how can I tell if my IHS can be removed? If anything, i'd like to change the TIM underneath the IHS...

every ihs can be removed the thing is that cracking the core is on a high risk
look at this thread:

yours wasnt soldered on though.. or was it?

I got a prescott IHS off, no problem.. I was fooling with it + a BBQ lighter and it popped off..

read thread my conroe ihs popped off with crazys method

Are you just watercooling the CPU? If not and you have other branches I would strongly suggest a reservoir. The more liquid you have the better the Delta will be for the entire system.

temps are actually really good, 3.3GHz @ 35c idle now.. I just have a error in my probe reading i guess. CoreTemp Beta shows the real temp..

gR3iF
09-14-2006, 08:38 PM
yeah it does asus pc probe is most times 10-15 degree higher

W2hCYK
09-14-2006, 08:52 PM
any way to make it show an offset?

Whats the best program to show ACCURATE temps of a conroe, in the system tray? MBM shows 11c higher..

This is more like it.. 3.445GHz, 14.797s

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Napalm_Fire/Superpi3_4GHz.jpg

Got it all the way to 3.58GHz with 1.59v.. :-( Unstable for superpi.. Any idea whats limiting me? Not the best OCer? or is this a good one?

gR3iF
09-14-2006, 11:12 PM
too much core voltage?
i need 1.51 for 3,6 gig

and for temps i would suggest everest because it reads temps liek coretemp

W2hCYK

Lemme give it a shot @ 1.51v and 3.6GHz, maybe im overvolting and its spazzing out from high voltage.. idk..

**no it didnt boot @ 400FSB and 1.51v.. :-( It takes me 1.67v to get 3.6GHz.. ideas? or do I just have a crappy OCing conroe? lol

I really want these bios updates to come out to enable multiplier changing so I can get past 400MHz FSB/my boards shitmarker.. lol.. between 377 and 400 is the range that you will have trouble to no end while OCing..

Hey! maybe its the motherboard, idk.

gR3iF

did you raise the northbridge voltage probably?
so maybe you are overvolting your cpu and undervolting your mobo?
