View Full Version : Very high venice 3500+ temps?

Hi,
My AMD Venice 3500+ is reported at running 47 degrees idle and 57 degrees load according to my motherboard using the bios, SuperStep(which came with it) and Speedfan under the "Remote". These seem very high for a venice, where it seems expected to run at 30 degrees idle and 40 degrees load. I have a Arctic Freezer 64 Pro on it, and 1 outtake and 2 intake fans for the case, which seems adequate cooling. Also, the program "Core Temp" reports the temperature at about 33 deg idle and 40 deg load which makes more sense, but this uses a different method of temperature monitoring altogther. Could this just be a problem with the monitoring on my motherboard, or a problem with the cpu itself? I have a Foxconn CK804K8MA-KS motherboard.
Thanks for your help.

Hi there.
My friend also has the same CPU. And he runs it at exact the same temps.
Yesterday i read something about the core not making good contact with the heat spreader. Resulting in a high CPU temp.
Because they(factory) put to much or to little thermal paste between the core and the heat spreader.
The same goes for the contact between the heat spreader and CPU cooler. Not to much thermal paste between them. Maybe you could check if the contact is good.
I don't think you have to worry about it. Maybe you could create a better airflow in your system.
Or do a lap job on your CPU cooler.

core temp is good
dont give a "sh***" on mainboard reported temps often they are missing the target

OK thanks for the advice - technicks, how can i create a better airflow - i already have 2 intakes and an outtake fan in my case?
my 3000+ (orleans) runs at 50ºc under load, and 35ºc under idle on stock cooler at 2700mhz, do you have a good airflow?

could you by chance post a picture of the inside of your case?
also im guessing you have the default cooler. i would reccomend the articcooling freezer 64. my buddy got one for $20 and it dropped temps and more importantly noise signifigantly.

You may try to get a fan direct next to your CPU cooler. I did it and it dropped another 3/4 degrees.

I have uploaded some pictures of my case - one with the case outside (outtake fan on window), and one with window removed (2 intake fans visible on left) as well as my Arctic Freezer 64 Pro and ATI Silencer. Any suggestions for improved flow?

technicks that blue led fan should be exausting not intake.
any fans on the front or side panels should be set as intakes and any on the top or back should be set as exaust.
my venice runs 25idle 32load on a xp-90 heatsink.
edit - post
your heatsink should be flipped around blowing twoards the back of the case!

Whose heatsink? technicks or mine?
@technicks: The only hole near my cpu cooler is used by the freezer 64 anyway as an intake hole, so there would seem to be no point putting an extra fan on there.

Next thing to do is mod your Freezer Pro, stick an 80mm fan on the other side of the cooler to suck the air the stock fan is blowing through the fins, then if you have an 120mm case exhaust fan fitted to the back the hot air goes straight out but the extra 80mm in exhaust on cooler just moves the hot air outta the fins much quicker, it will give you 3-5C lower temps at idle and 6-10C lower temps at load. Ohhh and you need to apply some decent thermal paste methinks!

yours
the fan on the freezer64 blows onto the heatsink andtherefore exits the side opposite the fan. the side without the fan should be pointed to the rear or the case to allow for exaust.
your's, the fan on the cooler should be on the other side

I always assumed that since the fan blew onto the heatsink it would need to get the cool air from outside the case - thanks for your help, I'll switch it around.

Here is a pic of mine with the extra fan, it's an Blue neon, I don't know how clear it will come out:

um thats nvid drivers
-mwaddoups air should follow this basic flow: from the bottom front to the upper back. look at my other post and that will tell ya how the fans should be configed.

And then you have to clean up your cables. All of them are blocking the air that is coming in. Maybe time to mod your case.
If you cut out that hd bracket and place another intake fan at the front.
Maybe you get a bit more airflow.:)

hey tatty does that second fan blow onto the heatsink or suck air off....:wtf:

Sucks mate, just takes the blown hot air from the stock fan out much quicker but just as importantly takes that hot air straight to the 120mm case extractor, damn good for upto 10C at load reduction with a decent powered 80mm on there! U like?

nothing wrong with the cpu temps anyways.. u are worrying about nothing..

another way to help inprove airflow is to clean up your wiring. Also is that cpu fan blowing tward the hdd? if it is reverse it. also you could get more powerful fans, like these...
EDIT:.. opps, i didnt see the second page to the thread ^... well then this just supports it
(80mm) http://xoxide.com/vantorfan.html
(92mm) http://www.svc.com/td9238h.html
(they might be over kill, but will greatly increase your airflow. Also youll want a fan control because they are very loud at full blast)

Tatty what did you use to fix that second fan onto the heatsink?

simply 4 x thin screws, they just push in and fit tightly between the fins of the cooler. no need to screw them, the fins are close together so they sit tight and snug. That pic I posted is actually old now, I have a 90mm fan in place of the stock fan (which was not very powerful) that is a much higher CFM and that has reduced temps further.

I have uploaded a picture of what I plan to do with my case - I may try and fix the 80mm AMD stock fan to the other side of the Freezer 64 as well. This should improve airflow, since the PSU also pulls air out of the top and the fan on the left should pull out the exhaust from the freezer. What do you think?

one thing.. years ago i had the clever idea of sticking one fan on top of another.. the end result was a disaster.. one fan too close to another fan buggers both of em up.. worth thinking about when u rig extra fans to blow at cpu coolers and such..
technical crap but a case fan is desiged to move still air.. when u speed the air flow up with another fan the blades kinda stall and dont work.. all to do with the pitch on the blades..

When I say put another fan, I dont mean on top of one another but I mean like Tatty_One described in this post: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpost.php?p=151272&postcount=15
Would you advise against that?

thats true but due to capacitors on my board i also have to have my freezer64 blowing in and not out but sorted that by placing an intake 90mm fan at the back, drawing cool air onto the freezer64 fan. also have 1 exhaust 120mm on the side, keeps 32/33c idle

No dont do that, you are talking about a blow and a blow which will actually slow down the movement of hot air, you MUST have a suck and blow or there is no point, keep it simple and stick to airflow not air resistance.
