I've always been curious as to what people achieve with their air coolers. So i've decided to start a thread, list the proc and type of cooler and what temp you achieve at idle. thanx all
at 2700mhz on idle i have 32ºc
at the stock cooler i can get to the ambient temp.

waht was the room temp :D i get about 40C idle but the room hoovers @ my case temp +1-2C (28Cish for the case temp)
edit that is w/ or w/o the oc the temps dont change for some reason well @ least @ 2.4ghz and 1.52v and the stock hsf so dont excpect andything special though im thinking of lapping the hs and putting as5 on the bottom that should dropit 4C ir so

bah - this thread discrimainates againsts P4 Prescotts surely - can we not have a highest temp comp instead
When I got mine it took me a while to realise the standard Heatsink and Fan was rubbish. With an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 it started of at 28c, crept up to about 35c and then under load got up to about 60c, But now, its about 10c higher at each stage. Took it off and cleaned it all up but its made no difference
PT - 16C on a Prescott??? was in in your freezer??

nop, it was a very cold night, probabily 5ºc the cpu had the thermaltake sonictower in it with a 120mm fan blowing on it :D i'm crazy, i know

thanks guys keep em coming. I've got about 4 computers here with different cpu's and cooling solutions, and i'm just trying to put together an average of what different cpu's get. so when you post let me know what cpu you have, thank you very much. i'm at 32c in a 18c room with stock hsf for a 3500venice at 2.5 1.55vcore. thanx all

Well when it was winter i used ducting that u use on dryers and reversed my fans so that they were sucking air in through the back and blowing out the front and attached the ducting to the back fan and the other end out a window when it was around -35 to -45 out and i was getting temps of around -5 or so...all i did was open a window put the other end in the window using the screen as kinda like a filter and it worked like a charm and i just blocked up the open area and i was nice and warm while my computer was freezing and i mean to touch the case hurt my hand...lol

sweet with the temp, i just put a new cpu cooler on some hyper 48 thing i had in a box, and i've actually just creamed another 150mhz out of my cpu giving me the highest speed i've ever gotten.

nice temps you got there, i'm idling at 32 right now and load around 40 at 1.66vcore which imo is a great temp, i'm not sure i can get 2.7 with my venice 3500, i'm hoping for it though, i'm gonna push it a lil tonight, and see what happens.

Right now I'm at 32-33. But then my case right now isn't a case and the dust is overwhelming. I usually stay below 30. Not bad for a $20 cooler. :toast:

wow, looks like i've got a pretty popular post goin. I only did this to figure out averages, and it's working pretty well. thanx everyone, keep em comin. right now i've got my window up and idling at 21 and loaded at 28 with some cheap hyper48 cooler i got for my p4 a few years ago.
trog100
09-17-2006, 02:06 PM
popular but the point seems lost on me.. all my fans are temp controled and slowed right down when the cpu and gpu are idling.. my priority being lack of fan noise..
its how hot it all gets when working hard that matters.. nothings gonna get that hot when its idling.. so why are idle temps so popular.. and are u guys really all running your fans flat out all the time just to get idle temps down as far as possible.. ??

I dont neccesarily disagree with your point of view, in that idle temp means nothing if your PC sounds like an F-16 taking off, and it falls over under heavy load
BUT
if someone wants to start a thread called whats the coolest idle temp you can get on air
its a litle churlish to come in and have a go isnt it?
Boneface
09-17-2006, 04:37 PM
Myself ive never cared about noise as long as my computer is as cold as possible
best i can get on my comp is 31c idle at lowest fan speed. and ambent temp is 70ish F.

not really i am just curious as to whats what.. and why folks seem so bothered about idle temps.. also curiouse about how many dont care that much about noise.. me.. i except a bit when gaming but dont like it while just doing things browsing or playing music which is idle to me..
course there is the other point.. are folks worrying about something they shouldnt be..?? i kinda get the idea they are..

I just know that the lower my idle temps are i only go at the most 10c over that and while playing GRAW i only go 6 to 7c over and ya im not worried about noise either,i wear a headset all the time anyway

Like I said , I dont disagree with your viewpoint, just sayign that whilst you may not see the point, it was the topic of the thread.
Right now, my Prescott is sitting at 50c, with the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 fan runnign @ 50% and its actually the PSU i can hear more (barely though) Yes, I could get the temp lower but I also prefer the peace, and as soon as it needs it QFan will kick it in, at which point I will probably be wearing a headset too ;)
How I covet thee Conroe with your cool runnings and awesome power

i spose its fan control that kinda complicates idle temps.. but sorry if i gave the impression i was trying to piss on someones bonfire.. i wasnt really..

i get 27-28c with a stock amd cooler @ stock cpu speeds of 2.2ghz and stock vcore. clocked to 2.92GHz @ 1.46v idle temps are about 38c
i just built a new comp for a customer using the e6600 c2d and a g/b quad mobo. on the stockcooler, it was idle @ 28-30C on PASSIVE!!!, the heatsink's fan was not spinning! Then when i ran a burn in test, the temp rose to 38-40 and the fan was able to cool the cpu with the stock cooler at 800rpm (silent!). these c2d are impressive. but the customer did have the coolmaster stacker, which can support 4x 120mm fans on the side (which he had) and couple of 120mm here and there.....
