I have an 80mm CPU fan on an Intel 530 3Ghz processor
Ive heard this particular chip set runs hot but the noise my fan makes is unbearable

Its running on a gigabyte 81915P Duo pro motherboard
ive got 2 120mm fans sucking into and out of the case
and the side is off the case at all times...

i can hear the cpu fan from down my hallway 6 metres away, when my bedroom door is closed

what the problem is? how do i reduce heat? how do i reduce fan speed to reduce noise?

thanks

it's the stock cpu?

or is one of the ultra ones they bundle at tigerdirect and microcenter? because those are louder than a fog horn

if you have a pic, we can see if it's a loud fan, or a temp problem more easily

everything you need like thermal paste comes with it
u only need your fingers and some alcohol do remove the thermal paste used by intel

Have you throught about buying a aftermarket cooler?

I would recommend one of the two.

or

That will really make it much quiter :p

Also if you plan on replacing the cooler, you will need some thermal paste to replace what the current cpu is using. I recommend only the best.. AS5

Anyways good luck mate.

I suppose you dont have much knowledge about PC assembly, so...

Check your temperatures! See if they are too big (does your comp pass out on hot days?). Either you fan is too busy cooling what he thinks is hot or he is in bad condition and needs to be replaced.

Then firstmost, get some thermal paste (you can ask for a stick of it in the nearest PC shop repairman and he will probably give some for free, it's low quality, but you need nothing more for the start).

Carefully remove your heatsink and make sure that there are no black blot instead of usually white/silver thermal paste spreaded in thin(!) layer under it.
I'm telling this cause i've seen people put coolers withouht thermal paste (or even without removing sticker that protects pre-applied thermal greeze on cooler). So make sure your cooler is seated well.

This wont cost you anything and will give some good experience. After that you'll probably know enought to go and scout for a nice coler based on your pocket weight ;)

Good luck and happy cooling :toast:

if you don't wan't to spend much money, just take off the cooler, clean the dust, put some as5 on, and it will not be so noisy

id like a long term solution

thanks for all the advice,
i think il go for the heat paste as well as a good after market heatsink fan.
