View Full Version : useless aircooling with X2

I am using a Zalman heatsink that was designed for a single Venice on my new X2 and at full load of both cores @2500 i guess it might get upto 15 C hotter, then whats needed for stable processing. Oh btw, the case is open, lying flat, ambient temp. 20 C.

If you dont know how to get them at full load try the boinc software with seti@home.

What do you think, with prices for aircooling as high as entry cpus, does it make sense to
switch to watercooling or are there still good reliable aircooler around @ affordable prices ?

there are many coolers that are cheaper then a watercooling but a watercooling is cooler^^

a would suggest a thermaltake sonic tower, a thermaltake blue orb, a zalmann 9500, a arctic cooling

they will all do the work

wich is your zalman cooler?, are you sure it is well placed?, wich is your mobo?, wich temps do you get with the cooler?

nobody has ever successfully explained to me just how u cool two cpus with the same cooler as u cool one cpu..

i have even said they get away wth it cos one cpu isnt doing anthing most of the time.. work em both and they will toast..

my mind works in simple ways but thats how i see it..

Is your Zalman cooler of 3K series? Fanless ones made for Pentium 3 and Celerons?

This stuff is not adequate for your X2 for sure :)

watercoolers are usually not cooler than air, but watercooling does not fluctuate temperature. water can store more heat than air, but this also means it take longer to store and release heat. waterblocks and radiators with a lot of chambers will improve temperature. ...this is based on experience and about 25-30 water cooling installs.

Its all attached properly. So this is the darkside of a fully loaded dualcpu. I didnt even bother
to get @ 2.5 ghz at full load. Temps might destroy the cpu and iam on a budget.

Please take your time to load your dualcpu with 100%, if you think your cooler is very good.

My guess is.. now way. But feel free, to prove me wrong!

The greatest challenge would be an (almost) passive/hot psu, dirty fan&heatsink and a closed case. Be careful though and watch temps closely.

You didn't mention how warm it gets.. Or did I miss something?

Mainboard temps are usually wrong, but everyone knows, or should know at what temperature
the cpu begins to fail. 53 C is the max safe temp. my mobo is reporting.

get a articcooling freezer 64. $22 + shipping and keeps dual core 2.6ghz at room temp.

better tell that to intel or any one that has the later P4 chips that ran default at 90c....

but in real life u dont have to worry about fully loading a dual core chip.. nothing will.. i think u are inventing problems to be honest..

well, if your thinking watercooling, I'm very happy with my Corsair Nautilus 500 (500 stands for 500W of heat dissipation, so you can add Gpu blocks without anyy probs)
Keeps my opteron 165 @ 2808mhz (312 fsb) 35(c) idle and 40-45 load, never seen it over 45(c) (thats about what I got with stock speed also, only a few degrees higher) so It keeps your CPU @ a comfortable Temperature.

also, the cooler master susurro is quite good, one hell of a heavy copper heatsink, with a 16DBA fan, gives about the same results as the blue orb

you cant oc on a passive cooler, nuff said. go buy a arctic freezer 64 pro, good and cheap.

you can: with a ultra 120 in a well ventilated case or some other fanless tower coolers :)

The Freezer 64 looks promising, i will try it.

i support the freezer 64

i have venice 2.0GHz OC'ed to 2.6GHz w/ vcore @ 1.5V

i get 42C load, 28~29C idle with room temp equal to ~25C (and i can't even hear it)
