I'm relatively new to overclocking, but I've been reading up on it for a couple days now. So please excuse the lack of knowledge. :D Here's my setup, it's rather old:

Abit NF7-S2G
(BIOS rev. 15)
AthlonXP 2600+ 1.15GHz
(locked multiplier x11.5)
Thermalright SLK-900A
512MB DDR400 RAM
(2x Buffalo 256MB, CL2.5, NonECC, Unbuffered, Dual Channel)
ATI Radeon X700
350W Antec PSU

My BIOS settings don't exactly seem to be overclocking friendly... kinda hard to describe. Computer currently running at default settings after clearing CMOS. I set the BIOS to expert mode and started to increase the FSB Frequency up to 133MHz. The computer can bot up and load windows, but after a certain amount of time or hitting a certain amount of cpu load, the computer randomly shuts itself off. I'm not sure exactly what's causing this problem as nothing in my computer seems to be overheating. I read that vCore should be used when the FSB is high enoguh that the CPU ceases to boot properly, but I decided to increase it 0.25V just to check. The problem is that the BIOS only allows you to increase the vCore by increments in percentages, the only options being +6%, +12%, and +18%. It seems that +12% doesn't allow the computer to boot. The computer still turned itself off after a certain amount of time. MBM5 shows that the comp is running at 46C at 133MHz.

I'm not exactly sure why it's not letting me run the cpu stably at 133MHz even though everything else on the comp seems to be working fine at a relatively cool temperature. Even at 133Mhz, the comp runs at 1.53Ghz and before my recent reformat, I remember it running at 1.9~GHz from a previous overclock.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

what athlon xp do you have barton/t-bred a/t-bred b cause your system should not be running @ 1.15ghz i had a 2000 that was 1.667ghz stock  it should have a 133mhz bus min you shouldnt hae to oc to that it may be damaged cause thats what mine did when it overheated once it only ran @1ghz then just up and died

I've got an AthlonXP Barton 2600+ running at 1.15Ghz... I read up on it and the stock should be at 1.9~Ghz because the multplier is locked at 11.5 and the FSB should be at 166. The problem is, when I run the FSB at 166, the computer either gets to windows and turns itself off or doesn't even complete the boot process.

Hmm, the thing is that before my recent reformat, I remember my comp running at 1.9Ghz and I'm doubtful that a reformat could mess up my cpu...

one thing is for sure that the board you currently have is highly oc-able.

Hmm, any ideas as to why it's not working so well?

is everything on the board tightly secured hsf (etc) and are there any capaciters that amy have been knocked off? other than that im confused as to what the prob is i assume you have tried to reset the cmos again right idk maybe try pulling out the battery and unplugging it from the psu see if that does the trikck BUT DO NOT retart w/ the battery still out and make sure you have it seated w/ the right side up when you replace it

everything seems to befine on the motherboard. doesn't seem like any of the capacitors have been knocked off either or bent out of place.

yeah, i just took out the battery and pulled the power plug but when i set the fsb to 166 again, it got past the bios part, but turned itself off right before windows finished loading

wonder if it had the same prob mine had i set everything up on my msi it ran fine for a while i wiped it down from 98se and put xp on it (wanted a clean install) and the cpu died or did what yours is doing at least it actually wouldnt boot on my msi mobo so i put it on my POS ecs k765a pro and it booted once regular well posted at least and i went to try and fix some settings in bios restarted and it was @ 10x100 it actually overrode the mullti lock to downclock the cpu from 12.5x133 so needless to say i was done w/ it its now resides in the garage awaiting Jesus to fix it :p you may need to upgrade may i suggest a pentium D 840 off of tigerdirect if your not brand savy or a amd s939 x2 if you want to stay were your at

do a rebuild it sounds like a dying procie or something is not connected right.....is the ram new or did you have it before when it ran at 1.9? id take every thing out. take the processor out take the mobo out. tighten grounds/add more if need be. put mobo back it reset cmos take out battery put proccesor back in reseat HSF ram hdd cdrom sound grafx then pop the patery back in cycle the psu. boot it dont fiddle with the bios oc options at all only the date and time if need be then go in windows and tell us what it says.
