Hi there.
I have a 20 gb Support plus mediaplayer.
A few weeks back i was testing the RC1 beta of vista.
I tried to use Partition Magic to set up 2 operatings systems with dual boot.
But for bootmagic to work it had to be instaled on a fat/fat32 hd.
So i used my pmp to instal the bootmagic crap.
The first time it went good, i could do a double boot between vista and xp.
But the second time i tried it my pmp gave a error saying HDD format or check
Since then i can see the device is being accepted by xp because it is saying new hardware found. But that is it. I can't see it anymore as the pmp. But only as the harddrive.
Also the pmp isn't visible in the "my computer" area.
Does anyone know how to format the pmp.
thanks
Aevum

when you say PMP i would suppose you mean Portable media player,
most portable media players carry the basic operating system and firmware on a flash chip to aviod things like you did, so if you can get to the menu system on the pmp, under options you should find an option to reset or reinicialize the drive or system, use it, but remember, this only formats and creates the original file system on the drive, it will fail if you have several partitions.
it will erase everything you have on it and recreate the original system of the PMP on the hard drive,
if you can still find or obtain a copy of the manual there should be some instructions on reseting the device,
before proceding to do any of this, repartition the PMP HD to 1 partition, and try to find out what was the original file system, 4gb or under tend to be fat, then they go to Ext2/3 or fat32 depending on if the manufacturer wanted to pay MS for a fat32 licence and if the PMP uses a propietary OS or linux,

That's just it. I can't get into the drive of the pmp.
I did not create any partitions on the pmp. The size of the hd is 20 gb.
And the space i could use was 19.5gb. So the os on it was very basic and small.
The file system was fat32 i believe. I tried to recover data with software but didn't work.
Tried to format the drive with partition magic but that a crappy prog let me format my pc for three or four times.:banghead:
So i am not gonna use it anymore.
I bought the pmp very cheap for 50 euro. It had the same error message that it has now.
I returned it to Supportplus and they fixed it for me for 75 euro's . Still cheap 125. But i don't want to send it again.;)
So if you know a program that lets me get in to the pmp's hd then it could help me.

you can always take it apart and it probably uses a 1.8" ide drive, buy an adapter, and access it that way - force a format, and hopefully the bios will load it up when you plug it back in
this worked for my rio karma, but that thing was a rock amidst all the flowery ipods
no guarantees!

Whooo. I just fixed my pmp with the HP usb format tool from here.
