The final release of IE7 will be released this month. A few weeks after it will be put available for download it will be added to the list of automatic updates.
Improvements over IE6 can be found in layout and security while keeping compatibility. Webmasters will still have to check their sites for compatibility as problems may occur. Steps to ensure compatibility can be found here (http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/10/06/IE7-Is-Coming-This-Month_2E002E002E00_Are-you-Ready_3F00_.aspx).
Of course you won't be forced to upgrade, if you don't want IE7 you can simply remove it from the automatic updates list and update it when you are ready.

this doesnt suprise me, ive been having quite alot of problems this month web browsing using IE6. i think m$ are deliberately compremising the performace of IE6 to make people upgrade to IE7 but that is presuming these problems arent just on my end

Well until I find a plugin for IE7 that's as good as adblock in Firefox I'll won't make it my main browser. Admittedly I haven't looked hard, but I like Firefox and both of them are unsecure so I use the one that suits me best.

Ive used FireFox and i prefer IE6, mostly because its easier to handle and loads faster.

But none of that matters, cause the best web browser ever is of course the Avant Browser, wich is like the IE browser but with all the Firefox advantages, such as tabs. I dont think u can make a better browser, and its been out for years.

I have noticed the FireFox doesn't load as fast as Internet Explorer, but I've also noticed that Internet Explorer has more problems for me.

I have noticed the FireFox doesn't load as fast as Internet Explorer, but I've also noticed that Internet Explorer has more problems for me.

IE is about 2 seconds faster to load at the most for me, and once firefox has been loaded once it loads in no time. If you are that bothered you could add the firefox prefetcher to your startup, but that might slow your PC as a whole by a fraction.

I have tried Avant but it had a few issues that I didn't like. This is a couple of years ago though.

i use firefox, IE6 and opera and of the three firefox lets in the most spyware, IE has the most problems and errors and opera is the most arkward to use. These findings may not be the same for the rest of you but i think IE6 with the windows popup blocker is the most secure option of the three. although it does lack some wonderfull features such as the Addblocker which is so need with todays sound and animated adverts.

I HATE SAFARI
it's slow and obnoxious, and not nearly as intuitive as firefox

i love ff, but opera is ok, but i love all the sweet plugins, themes, and support for ff

I'll load it, but rarely use it (Opera 9.02 user here currently, & have been for years since the 5.x releases in fact)...

I will load it for 2 purposes (1 of which I have already tested & satisfied):

1.) Development purposes - Doing ASP.NET means MOSTLY doing IE (especially when using ActiveX controls, like Crystal Reports has, for data access)... this I already tested & went thru around March of this year iirc... so, it's not a mandatory thing for me here so much anymore.

(As I found out what works, & what does not, & what is different while doing ASP.NET work coding)

2.) For potential security enhancements - Even though Windows Server 2003 ships & uses IE by default in a "Security Enhanced Configuration", which is MUCH safer than it is in XP/2000? I believe that IE7 is truly, more secure than IE6 is.

The point here mainly being, imo @ least, that other programs tend to use & leverage IE libs (like Outlook's do &/or Office apps)... they are an "attack vector" because of this, so I want the extra 'security locks' present in IE because of them using IE libs mostly.

Same for me, I'll let it load, but I won't use it. Besides, Java is much much worse for your PC than IE6/IE7. IF people just didn't enable every Active X control and did some work keeping their PC secure, the world would be a warm and fuzzy place.
