View Full Version : Intel won't be buying NVIDIA

Rumors of Intel buying NVIDIA seem to be false. However, according to some Taiwanese motherboard producers, Intel and NVIDIA are planning an alliance. The alliance will have NVIDIA focussing less on AMD products and more on IGPs for Intel.
If this alliance is formed it will form a formidable force to cope with the new AMD/ATI merger which will be official this quarter.

lol firstly it was obvious that there would be a rumour mill about intel and nvidia, now its a friendship, how long until they are married

This makes much more sense than Intel trying to buy Nvidia out. The amount of capital Intel would have to spend to do that would be very bad for their bottom line, and a partnership is much friendlier to both. AMD/ATI seems to be more focused on a future CPU/GPU combo than dominating the current market so this makes an Intel/Nvidia partnership even more sensible.

This makes a lot more sense, what with Intel investing in PowerVR technologies.
Its all a lie. From what I've seen in the past Nvidia doesnt choose sides, which is a smart move IMO.

Its all a lie. Nvidia likes AMD better. :)
Yes, I think it used to be that way, but I think they don't like the new AMD+Ati though :p :nutkick:

How big of a company is Nvidia? Bigger than ATI? Smaller than intel?

At about 10 Billion USD, nVidia is valued at more than twice the price AMD paid for Ati (about 4.5 Billion USD I think) Intel is valued at over 50 billion USD right now.

Much larger than ATi, Intel is by far the biggest..
1-10 scale-
AMD-7
Ati 3.5
Nvidia 4.0
Intel 9
Microsoft (gotta have a frame of reference  ) 15

Actually, this is a HUGE difference.
This means we wont see an end to the Nforce chipset. VITAL to Nvidias enthusiast market success. Intellites are intel chipset only loyal, it seems... Intel would absorb Nvidias chipset market, and most likely end their AMD product lineup.
That leaves Intel Vs amd. 2 less companies in the world. :p
Best move for Nvidia, really. This will ensure standards upon both sides of the camp to remain with a standard for GPU's, and keep Nvidia's market alive on BOTH sides, no matter who wins :)
Their worry now will be the enhanced steroids AMD will be able to pump into Ati's development.

You must like the word Form. And alliteration.
i just don't want to see something like only nvidia gfx card work on intel and Ati in AMD :shadedshu

WHy so? that would be a pretty dumb move.. eliminating a large portion of your GPU market to favor a vendor?
While the Overall CPU market may remain very one sided with Intel, the enthiusiast market that uses higher end GPU's is still split pretty good ;)

That would never happen because they have marketing specialists that know how much fanboyism goes into people's choices in what they buy. The BS with no SLI for Intel chipsets is that Nvidia wants to push their chipsets to everyone. But with minor effort, SLI is easily done on 975 boards. Things like this new friendship only serve to open up their possibilites. Same with AMD/ATI. AMD will most definitely want people to buy their stuff but be able to run Nvidia based cards. Either way they are making money. This will just serve to hopefully put GPU prices down like CPU prices finally have come down. Once again, this should be outstanding for the consumer.

somehow i dont see nvidia stopping production of amd chipsets, it would cost them too much in revenue.

True... it'd be killing a retail outlet basically for them for NO good reason most likely... & "pal'ing around" w/ only 1 chipset or CPU maker is the same concept...

I guarantee they would stop if Intel bought them. ;) Intel is already pressuring Anti-Ati chipsets.
See the RD600 fiasco?

There was an article some months ago about how if Intel Purchased Nvidia they would be deemed a monopoly threat and dealt with, I can't believe there were this many posts on it...
