YouTube has been controversial lately. With over 100 million videos watched on it every day, it is by far the most popular video sharing site on the internet. However, it also hosts a lot of copyrighted content, which could sink it in the future. There has also been talk of companies like Google buying YouTube. To help fix the copyright issues, YouTube has signed deals with three major record labels. Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and CBS have all agreed to submit their content to YouTube, on the condition that YouTube puts new software in place to remove unauthorized content from their website. YouTube will pay the three record labels through advertising.

How? You still get to watch all the stuff for free, it's just legal now :). Of course, there are advertisements, but that's nothing a little Adblock can't fix lol.

That means they are going to pull all the homemade videos because it has their music in it. They are going to pull of kinds of stuff down, I like people posting stuff, not big companies. With advertising, does that mean I have to watch a commercial before I watch a video now?

That's a really good question. I don't think they're going to pull homemade videos using copyrighted music, assuming that they have the proper rights. They're mainly trying to pull episodes of television shows that aren't supposed to be there ;). And advertising will be no more prominent then it has been, aka some banners to the side of the feature, which can be hidden with Adblock (my favorite firefox extension) or a full screen window.

I like watching TV shows on Youtube, and Sony has a lot of rights to them. Big business always gets in and tears up the fun on the Internet. Unless you want to pay of course.
