To think I use to build pc's? Well things use to always go good not this time.
I got my 800GTO and powersupply today. Hooked it all up and the onlyl things that work is the fans. All of the fans work even the ones off the big power connectors but no light on the floppy and the dvd-rom will not open.
Is this the PSU or something else? edit I think no I tried my old PSU and the DVD rom still will not open.
Can a bad mobo do this?

did you unplugg the floppy or dvd ribbon cable if you did check to see if they are on upside down

No these particular ribbons have the filled in plug so they can't. I don't hear the processor and also no video.
your board aint posting, can be multiple of things...any beep codes?

No and I read a review just now on NewEgg of a similar situation.

as always (i should write a guide on this)
when your computer dosnt post,
CLEAR CMOS, always do it, sometimes a hardware change conflics with cmos settings and the board dosnt post, if continues to fail to post, carry on to next step,
disconnect everything, including case,
grab box motherboard came in, put the foam that came in the bottom on top, on top of foam put the anti static bag the board was in, then put on the board,
connect the fallowing things to the board,
PSU, CPU, CPU Heatsink and fan, make sure the fan is connected to CPU header, if the fan is a 120mm fan or a 92mm fan, you might want to consider connecting it to a case fan header on the board and connecting a 40mm-80mm fan to the cpu header just in case fan RPM is too slow and your motherboard has a CPU fan fail protection system (board does not post if cpu fan RPM below a specific number)
connect video card, if it requires extra feed, make sure it gets it,
connect ONYL 1 stick of memory,
connect keyboard,
try to start up the system by shorting the power botton pins with a jumper,
if posts, start adding stuff untill it dosnt, when it fails to post, you found your offending piece of hardware, if it posts with everything connected, check case for dents, cuts and any damage that could be touching the board, make sure that all those raiser screws that seperate the board from the case have a corresponding hole on the board, (a friend of mine fried 2 boards becuase he had an extra one that touched the board and kept shorting a circuit),
if it fails to post in drydock with only psu, memory, cpu, keyboard and video card,
replace components in this order,
1)psu
2)graphics card
3)Memory
4)CPU
5)motherboard,
and that concludes my X^2 repetition of this tutorial

You got me somewhere but no success. Indeed the offending piece is 256mb of Super Talent ram this board might not like or maybe the ram is not good as it is new. Never the less I still have no video so I assume either the g-card is not compatible/bad or something else is still up. I am getting a different mother board regardless just to be safe.

Well my new EVGA board does work, looks like the other one is good just not compatible.

Hey I just solved this issue yesterday.
It has literally stumped me for a month and it just hit me yesterday (it was a very noobish mistake).
Now make sure (and I bet you do) have the 20/24 pin connected from the PSU to the motherboard.
Now check that you also have the 4 pin connector located near the CPU (this is what supplies power to the CPU, Video Card, HD, etc.)
That was the mistake that I made.
Now if that still doesnt do it keep those connections connected and disconnect everything else (including the video card and RAM).
Now test it and it should beep...If it didnt then the mobo is prob. bad.
If it did then put the RAM in and test it like that...
You should hear a different type of beep...If you didnt your RAM might be bad...
If it did, take out your RAM and put the Video card in.
You should hear a different beep (like the one when the RAM was missing)...If it was the same as the last one the video card might be bad.
Test the components seperately too helps if you can.
Good luck.

Thats probably the 15th time in a yera I've heard that mistake has been made, and I'm one of those 15 :P
