Once Windows Vista is released as a final version, there will be a very large gap between DirectX 10 and the hardware that supports it. There will certainly be a few DX10 solutions. NVIDIA is launching it's G80 series of graphics cards on November seventh, and ATI's R600 GPU's should reach market around January or February 2007. However, most people don't have the money or need for a high-end DX10 GPU. And so NVIDIA is working hard to create a nice sub $99 DX10 graphics card, and should have something available in spring 2007.

After I read Microsoft's idiotic licensing scheme for Vista I'm leaning to stay with XP and forget Vista altogether.

That licensing is gonna take a bite out of sales for sure, but the drones will flock to it just for DX-10.

I never buy any OS right away, I wait about a year, and I expect to do the same or more with Vista, wait a year or so.

I'd rather purchase Windowblinds 5 and make it look like Windows Vista than buy into Microsofts idiotic license. In my 5 years of using XP i've purchased 5-6 mobos, graphics cards, HDD, sound cards.
At that stupid rate I would have to buy Vista 2-3 times :banghead: and Microsoft is pushing Vista as a gaming platform...please.

From the tone of that article it sounds like Vista will be online aware meaning it will contact the Microsft servers on a periodic basis and check for changes in your system both hardware and software wise. If Vista thinks a change has taken place that requires reactivation and you can't provide it for the OS it will essentially begin to shut down.
Way to go Microsoft ! :shadedshu

and microsoft wonder why people crack their OS. I can bet in 2 years we'll all be on vista... and i can bet 90% of us wont have paid for it when we upgrade.
Its worse for me as i own/run a LAN cafe, and every year i upgrade the systems (mobo/CPU/ram/VGA, at least two of those) and there is no way in hell i'd settle for replacing vista that often.
Simply put, i'll buy it once, and if i have to crack it when i upgrade, i damn well will.
